depending on the class and track, some scoots will hit 80mph during a race.
there have been a few peopel who have jumped from the various usa scooter racing sanction bodies to particitpate in national level motorcycle racing. it really does take skill and dedication.
Reminded me of the opening seen of a French move "Taxi", by Luc Besson (also did "Léon" or "The Professional", and "The Fifth Element" which people probably know). Had some delivery rider thrashing a Vespa around Marseille, sliding and leaving a trail of sparks behind... Great stuff.
Won't ever give up that lens man, it is the best.
