If you are impatient or buy at large stores or eBay "Buy Now", then these prices might be realistic, but if you have the patience, then hang out on eBay and just watch every auction, and don't buy until you get a really good price. I bought my RZ67 for about half of the above in great condition.
good to know. i was looking at keh, but i'm in no rush. i just wasn't sure if trying to get this stuff off ebay was asking for trouble due to the age of some of it.
also, concerning inexpensive options: any opinions on the TLR's by mamiya or yashica?
goosemang - calling you that makes me feel a little strange for some reason - these cameras were actually made to last, as in seriously last, decades of lasting.
Most were used by people who knew how to look after things and could adapt to 'idiosyncacries' (of which all these cameras had in spades) so MF gear is a much better bet 2nd hand, less pimple-faced callow youths behind the viewfinders of them in their heyday.
I would watch out for worn out specimens thrashed along by pros prepared to do anything to get the shot, or shoot that 5000th wedding. Maybe get some history of usage, look for one owned by a geriatric fondler type who took more pictures *of* the camera than *with* it.
Local high end shops are good, as are national photo mags, online sites like here or anywhere there is a 'mature' demographic, also specialist shop like Ffordes in the UK, and yes, KEH. These folks can sort out the wheat from the chaff for you an dhave to stand behind the product.
The Yashicamat is a really nice little camera, not terribly robust, but unlikely to have been abused by a pro. If you find one in nice condition for a good price, try it out. The Mamiya C330 and C220 are much larger, heavier and more robust, but are also more likely to have been abused in pro work. I think the C330 has interchangeable lenses, I am not sure about the C220.
i'm thinking that since this is my first foray into the medium (no pun intended) i may try a yashica or mamiya tlr simply because it would be a low cost way in and i wouldn't stick my neck too far out there on something i'm not 100% sure of.
edit: pulled the trigger on the mamiya tlr. for $240 i'm willing to give it a shot. here goes nothing!
i definitely want waistlevel. i figure if i shoot this thing at a rate of 1 roll/week it's going to cost me about $780/year for processing/scanning. so in the long run, if i stick with this, the cost of the system itself to start here...$600, $800, whatever, is kind of inconsequential. so it all comes down to what system is best for me.
sounds like mamiya is largest, then hasselblad, then bronica. not sure i'm terribly concerned about the size. i plan to work pretty deliberately but i am not a full time tripod shooter by any means. is the build quality on the bronica system seriously below the other two?
if anybody has any thoughts on which of these may be best it'd be appreciated....Show more →
bronica, SQ-Ai thats a good one, i heard it used to use Nikkor lenses! If so, I wonder if I could just use my lenses on this with an adapter, that way I can have the best of both worlds? However, i think that they formats are way to different to do so leaf shutter, and so on, but the reverse method might be possible via adapter? so much to learn!!

has anyone an idea of which monitor calibrator is decent, and budget enough? and what is the diff between it and the Datacolor Spyder4Express Colorimeter? thank you! p.s.s, which have you used, or use now?

Just a plug -- I've got a double body RB67 Pro SD system listed in the B&S -- all backs 120/220 -- 645 and 67, and lenses 50, 75, 90, 127, 180 and 250. All working great.
