I would agree on colors and lenses, Nikon is still behind on both to Canon. Unless shots are PP'ed by some good pro colors are greenish to my eyes. Lenses, I love Canon fast primes and I don't care how good Nikons zooms are

I just bought a Canon 5D Mark 3 a few weeks ago and it's already malfunctioning severely. It's broken. I spent over 3 grand for something that is completely undependable.

Good luck with the switch.
True, Canon is the only brand of camera that has the occasional faulty camera.

rxgolf - Thanks for your input! I'm glad you like your 1DX, I think there's a lot of things that contribute to a great camera and the confidence it inspires that can the measured on paper. I'm glad to see it all worked out for you
garydavidjones - I actually did see that video! It was also something that prompted me to further consider the switch. While its certainly not a scientific test, I was really impressed with the autofocus speed when switching between objects with the 1DX and the accuracy it displayed. If the autofocus is that accurate without adjustment on lenses like that for me, then I'll be sold for sure.
jerrykur - Yeah, I'm rather excited for the 600RTs! Should be sweet!
Breitling - I agree, Nikon files seem to have a green cast to them in my experience and a tendency to be incredibly "cold/blue" in the white balance area...
Tom K - It happens....and it happens with all brands. Just because something is $3k, doesn't mean its immune to failure. I understand your frustration, but stuff happens.

Reading your post echoes my reasons for switching back to Canon. I made the switch from Canon to Nikon about a year ago after having focusing issues with my 40d and 7d. The 7d was repaired by Canon and performed well after the repair, but my confidence was gone.
I decided to move to Nikon and picked up a D3s. I went through several on Nikon's best lenses looking for something that resembled the rendering from my Canon lenses, the 85 1.4G was the most similar. After using Nikon for a year I made the switch back to Canon, mainly because of the 5d3. I have been pleased so far with my decision. I only have the 35L and 135L along with a pair of 600ex-rt flashes. I really like the flashes!
I am an amateur hobbyist and use my camera gear primarily for family pics. I like primes as I have no problem zooming with my feet, but have owned the 70-200 II and it is wonderful. Good luck with your switch and I imagine you will be pleased given your reasons for switching.

I have shot professionally for a long time. I have the 5DII and frankly, with what I have read about the 5DIII focus, I would never buy the II even for a backup. I keep my 5D because I like the sensor but the sensor of the 5DII, though higher resolution, is nothing special, for me, and the focus sucks.

.... With the posts here I wonder what all the canon wedding photographers did prior to the 6month old 5diii..... I guess I am fortunate that my crummy 5dii still focuses w/o driving me nuts
Canon is great and the 5d3 & 1dx are also fantastic. You will enjoy them. Both systems are fantastic actually

KibblesNbitz -- Just wanted to say that I think you will really love the 45 TS-E. It's main detraction is the CA fringing, but that is cleared up in LR (or PS). The lens has softer tonal transitions and beautiful color, sort of Leica-like, especially wide open (but you probably have seen this in your friend's photos). It shoots fairly close-up, and obviously you can tilt to a narrow plane of focus.
I'm also a fan of the 50L wide open and up to 2.0 for soft portraits.
I love your decisions and plans. The 1DX should be great. Keep us informed and show some examples later.
p.2 #16 · Why I'm switching to Canon...(From Nikon)
Will do! I thought I heard with the 1DX it has a database of something like 40 lenses or so, where it detects the lens attached and removes CA? I don't know if the TSE 45 is included in that though...
EDIT: Here it is...
"Built-in chromatic aberration correction and in-camera RAW processing
Chromatic aberration in Canon lenses can be corrected at the time of shooting with the EOS-1D X's Lens Aberration Correction feature and can be saved and registered to the particular lens. The EOS-1D X can even distinguish between different lenses of the same model by supporting registration of serial numbers specific to each lens."
Is that on every Canon camera? Is it just one of those gimmicks they throw on, that only applies to JPEGs or something stupid like that? Sounds pretty cool if it actually works!
p.2 #18 · Why I'm switching to Canon...(From Nikon)
CA Correction is a new feature for Canon; so far they have only included it in the 5D3 and 1DX
- it's a reason why I want to upgrade from 5D2 to 5D3 (along with the AF!)
I suspect it only applies to JPEGs; RAWs will be unprocessed, but Canon's RAW processing software (DPP) will probably be able to apply the processing to RAWs on import
