So you all think I shouldn't worry much about it? I don't get my camera back until Tuesday!
But I'm wondering if I hit an oil spot or something because when I cleaned my Nikon D80 several times it was clean afterwards. However on my try on the D800 I got like white smear which faded after another try but I was in so much shock that I couldn't continue to see what would happen after more tries so I went with it to the camera store for inspection and cleaning.
All this began after I saw a huge spot or droplet on the bottom left corner it was fade but obvious on f22 aperture. Hopefully my Nikon D800 isn't ruined!
Cleaning a full frame is much harder in my experience than a dx camera. On all my DX cameras, including my D300s, a couple quick swipes would do it. But my D700 (when I had it) and D800e take more effort to get right. And yes, there seems to be more oil on those at first until you get them cleaned up a few times. Especially if you even touch anything inside other than the sensor with the cleaning pad. Then it eventually settles down.
Trying it once and then quitting is not the way to learn how to do it. There are plenty of you tube videos on sensor cleaning to study, also on the Copper Hill site. It just takes a little practice. But it isn't for everyone.
I was promised that I would get my camera at end of day tomorrow... now I'm chewing my fingernails. I think that it is more likely that it will come out ok and not scratched like I feared though... but there is still some fear left and my fingernails are getting shorter.
Got my camera back today and no it was not scratched!
However, I will practice on my old Nikon D80 for some time before I clean my Nikon D800 again. This was probably oil from the chamber, probably accidentally touched something outside of the sensor area.
