At the moment, with my current setu, I would def opt for a D3X again...it works great in tandem with my D3S. I'm very happy with the quality it delivers, and I love the fact I have identical body's (no extra batteries, chargers, memcards etc etc). I only use it on 100iso, and i've never felt that i'm missing detail.
I find it hilarious how people now seem to think the D3X quality is not adequate anymore

You are right, and there is a balanced discussion on NIkon Gear about D3x vs. D800
"I have to say though from what I am seeing posted in numerous places on the net I'm not too impressed with the D800/D800e, more relevant perhaps I have seen quite a few prints from these new bodies, if I'm honest I actually prefer the rendering from the D3x.
I have used the D3x on numerous occasions and the images I have had printed have been outstanding."
Perhaps this is an answer to the thread-starter here to look into this thread ?
