Iceland is a seriously amazing place. I was there 6-8 weeks ago and was there for just under 1 week and I found that to be very tight with respect to time. One of the places that you should go by yourself or extremely committed photographers because you do not want to be rushed while taking your photos
I thought I would share an image taken. Taken with X-Pro 1 with Fuji 35mm f1.4 and B+W 10 Stop ND. Previously I was shooting with Canon 5D3 and Lee Bigstopper but it was raining. After several failed attempts at keeping the square filter dry, I switched to using the Fuji.

Well I am in - booked our honeymoon there in Jan for 7 nights, split between Reykjavik and Akureyri.
In other words it's a package trip, so photography will be what opportunities exist under those limitations.
Perhaps a coffee with the Reykjavik guys is possible?
Will be packing the Contax N 24-85 and prob the 75-300, so new Zeissland here we come! If space permits the Planar 50/1.4 and FD Ts 35/2.8 will also be in.
I also have a number of Nikon Zooms,
very light rather good 28-80 3,5-4,5
a 70-300 VR, a 80-200 2.8 ED
no idea so far what I will bring.
I am not so fond of the 70-300, but those images indicate it is a good focal length.
80-200 is better, but I am not sure I want to carry it around all day.
...and the 280/4 Telyt with 1,4 and 2,0 converter for Wildlife if Xtobolic carries it
or it can sit in the car between uses.
I will probabely have a second body by then, most likely either D7000 or D600
or I sell my D700 and get a D800(e)...Show more →
Interesting set! I will probably go for primes with some more gap in focal length.
Just ordered the Sigma 100-300 and the Leica APO Telyt 180 3.4 with a leitax kit. Heard the 180 3.4 is great at infinity. Curious how it compares to the sigma at 300 mm.
The APO Telyt 280/4 is a dream lens. But is it really that much better than the Nikon 300 F/4 at F/8?

If I go I'll probably have my CV 180/4 APO-Lanthar (Nikon mount) which is quite nice too, I've heard some say it's comparable to the 180/3.4 even at infinity but I have no experience with the Leica.
Yes we were on a tour and had very little time here, something like 10 or 15 minutes. I think this was the "morning" light (10 or 11 AM? oops! no, this is noon!) on our way to the glacier walk.

Thanks Alundeb!
Currently in Washington DC on business, packing my 5N for the leisure time, of which 2 of my 3 available days were fairly cloudy. Incidentally, I mentioned the January trip to a Scotsman who had been there in winter with his young family, and he gave very good reports...

I might not bring them all.
21 is a must, I guess, but 25 is much lighter and smaller and might do for hikes.
28 is a good match with 85, but a bit redundant.
I might replace all three of them at some point with the new 25. But then again the 25/2.8 is just as good for landscape closed down...
85 is a bit redundant with 100 MP.
I will need to think hard, and at last, the scale will decide...
I am interested in the Telyt 180/3.4 too. - you mean comparing at 180mm?
Telyt 280/4 is PERFECT wide open. Not sure I want to shoot it at f 8 to often. It might not be that much of a difference between the two (remember: almost every lens is good at f8 ;-) The most important advantage for me of a Nikon 300/4 would be the autofokus and the mucht lighter weight. I had a hard time deciding between the two when a Telyt came up at a reasonable price.... might still get the 300/4 at some point and compare (when some new money comes in...) or the new 80-400 (or 100-500)if Nikon finally decides to bring out a new one in 10 or 15 years...
Hmm, I've always wanted to go to Iceland. I have missed several trips already so maybe it is time to dig out the camera and join in. Would be nice to see Iceland with other photographers so I won't bore the missus too much.

Anyone interested in either winter or summer next year? Looking at Feb/March or May/June. Would be great to share costs and also have a photography companion
I miss the aurora so I'm more geared towards going in winter.
