Andy - were you using any of the NR settings in camera?
No, since the D800 and D4, I turn NR completely off. Due to the high degree of downsampling possible and the different level of noise "granularity" it is rarely necessary to do some slight form of NR with current FX bodies.

Andy, thanks for showing this. I don't see the need to upgrade from a D700, but this does have really nice output in capable hands!
Agree.
D700 users are among the last community in a "need" to "upgrade" to the D600. I'd rather see the D7000, D90, D300,D300s and non-Nikon user base as the tempted one....
Thanks Andy, Have you had any issues with holding exposure? All I'm shooting with mine at the moment is jpeg until LR updates, so I don't have a real feel for the RAW's yet. It could be my in-camera picture control settings.
I'm a Canon user and I don't like being laughed at -- it hurts my delicate feelings -- but I have to say that what the OP was able to achieve with those underexposed images is remarkable. I hope Canon understands they have to step up their game technically; otherwise I see them really falling behind the competition.
MAN, unbelievable photograph everyone!!!
I am amazed at the sharpness of my D600. I sold my D700 w/grip and I was very worried about the "feel" of the camera. After a few hours it felt very natural in my hands. I have a grip coming, so it will even get better.
Here is my experience with the great resolution.
(Sorry, this is a cross post, I also put it in the Nikon Manual Focus thread)

Lol. Was tongue in cheek of course, but on a serious note Nikons sensors (well the sensors they use) do seem to be leading the game at the mo. What I would say though is that the files from Canon's sensors seem to deliver sharper images, but of course processing can take care of that.
I'm one of those D90 users that is sitting here thinking 'I gotta get me one of those' and now you show me Austria and I'm thinking 'I gotta get me there'
Thanks for posting.

Thank you for sharing your opinions, Andreas. Were the Jeep pictures shot and processed in RAW? If so, what software did you use?
You are welcome.
The Jeep image was captured in compressed (lossless) 14bit RAW and processed in Capture NX2. Calling it "processed" is too much. It really took only a few seconds of my time.
Open file.
Turn off NR
Increase exposure by +2EV
Set dynamic lighting to 80 and HQ
resize to 900x600
save as JPEG
