I'm most interested in being able to change settings in the lens firmware like different fine tune settings at multiple different distances and zoom settings.
I hope they keep improving their QC, they make some glass can give nikon a run for it's money.

Who cares if they release a new model? Car manufacturers do it every single year. I buy lenses to use...I give zero thought as to what a new model might do to my resale value.

That is fine if you intend to use it until it breaks/falls apart or have loads of money otherwise resale is a concern. I certainly never intend on keeping any lens (or car or camera) until it is totally worn out so purchase price - resale = my cost of ownership.
The less money you have, the less you should be churning your gear.
The longer you keep it, the lower your cost of ownership per annum. Save money, simply by not spending more money, and buy the tools (e.g. lenses) that fit your needs. Not that hard.

I still have and use the Pentax ME that my mother gave me when I was 12 years old.
More on point, I've got the Sigma 50. I paid full local retail price for it maybe a year ago. It was $625 with taxes if memory serves me. I own many 50's, never sold a one, and I don't really plan to.
Some people buy/sell. I don't. I buy and use. There is nothing the current 50 leaves me wanting, so if/when a new version comes out, I'll be just as happy with mine. It's nice not worrying about gear so much. It allows you to concentrate on photos.
Should I decide to sell it 10 years from now for $200, I'll sleep just fine at night. But I suspect that at that price, I will happily hold on to it.
my experience with sigma lenses has been consistently good. i think they generally represent very good value for your lens value. right now i don't have any sigma lenses but i wouldn't hesitate to reload if i needed something.
