Ah! I want to move, or at least visit!
Well its definitely worth a visit. Moving involves dealing with the dark and cold winters, which you might well tire of quickly.
Jerry - good that you're getting stronger and seeing some sun. And taking such great pictures too. If you can roll for 4 hours you're more mobile than i am at the moment, as my back blew out again about 3 weeks ago. I now limp around with a stick like Dr House. I'm hoping i won't need a prescription opiate addiction to match.
yes, good call, definitely time to toss off the summer photography thread and begin the fall one, you can tell you're deep into fall already when you find yourself starting to take shots like say this one from a couple of days ago: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8450/8008137177_f5fb5ca004_c.jpg
(i.e. don't dare say the summer is over yet! for now i will have to sit back and watch and wait and maybe in a month I can join in. i shall go back and resurrect and haunt the summer thread for now....)

Now that's color, way cool!
My best with your back issues, hope you heal fully and with as little pain as possible, you'll be in my thoughts
And do be careful please, my rolling is perm, 34ys plus, I recommend being quite gentle with anything spinal. As for the opi's, had a stint with oxy several decades back, kinda helps but nerve pain is just...nasty...ouch.
My rollin is via power wheelchair, 6mph top speed , kinda mobile, working legs would be preferred tho
Jerry
Thanks for the kind words Jerry. It's funny you mention eastern Washington, that's where my my parents now live and your right it does resemble that area. Livermore is a great area to shoot, it's getting good light that is troublesome, its either sunny or foggy, great clouds are rare

Peter thanks so much, I was a bit shaky but did manage a few sharpies!
What is most encouraging is my gaining arm strength, more strength means more ability to re-position, which translated into more hours rolling; 4.5 hours up without any signs of damage, signs I'm moving forward with rehabbing
A few more from today's roll...
I really like the young hibiscus shot! Glad to hear your feeling better and getting out more
Thanks Jerry, we know what it is - a prolapsed disc in the lumbar region, just like earlier this year. Another MRI on monday coming and then back in the queue for surgery number 2 i think.
For all it hurts like hell i'm sure you'd trade me, and for sure i wouldn't trade you. I don't know i could keep up such a positive attitude if i was wheelchair-bound. Its a great credit to you that you can and do get on with having a normal-ish life

Fortunately I come from good hardy Swedish and Norwegen stock, and have wonderful family/friends for support.
Over the years I've concluded you deal with the hand you're given, it's easier to smile and enjoy than worry about what can't be. And, I've not been "normal" much in my life, my freinds can attest to that
Hope the MRI results are favorable, that the queue isn't to long a wait and all goes smooth after!

A couple of wildlife photos from the first official days of Autumn...
The deer and turkeys were caught with a 70-300L, the butterfly on the zinnia with a 100L Macro assisted by a Kenko C-AF 1.4x Teleplus Pro 300 DGX...
I added the extender out of curiosity, and it works okay; not much of a hit on sharpness, but it added a strange fringing (not quite like CA) , slowed down AF (I rarely manually focus when chasing butterflies), and narrowed DOF even more. I'll probably stick to extension tubes when I want more magnification, but in this instance I was after distance; butterflies are skittish enough to demand handheld stalking, and shooting from a few inches away is asking too much from them...
Thanks, Michael; I was recently researching the toxicity of poke sallat (most species are poisonous, and the leaves have to be prepared just right for eating) and Wikipedia claims the U.S. Constitution was written in poke berry ink...my cousins and I used it as "warpaint" as children...
Sorry for the non-photographic trivia
Jerry
(And I enjoy the graphic simplicity of your single leaf compositions... )
