I did as Gunrunner said, edited the original post, dunno about the magnifying glass. They are still shrimps next to the original.
I did do one handheld and was amazed how well it came out of CS5, which inspired me to go back with a tripod, locked all exposure settings in M, focused each shot in LV and left IS on, but I likely took nowhere near the care a panomaniac would take, trusting CS5 to cover my tracks.
Anybody know what 25000x5000 and 35000x5000 pixels would come out to in meters?
John -- Thanks for the effort -- it looks great. The detail shots are just amazing and a puzzle to find where they fit in.
Pijuns, Pijuns everywhere...absolutely fantastic shooting guys
I guess some of your stunt flyers came back out of hiding Peter and you captured the well!
And John, stunning work, that last image, the detail is amazing, incredible feathers!
Very impressive, both the 1DX and 5D3...the 5D3 is possibly within budget!
Just do it. All the guyz waiting on prices to drop, hemming 'n hawing. Got mine in May at full price and wouldn't trade one shot I got in the meantime for any "saved" money.
Jerry, we are here to have fun, and if you like what you see, that fulfills my mission.
Incidentally, the double flyer shot above is a blended image of two successive frames of the same duck, shot at 10 FPS.
I still have to do a bit more BIF testing 800L vs. 400 II + 2xTC, and then I am done , and will be able to pursue hopefully some better image making.

John, I'm getting ready to sell my older gears, FD and some EOS; bodies n lenses, bags, tripods...I'm slimming down substantially. Depending on my success it's either a 6D or the 5D3. My croppers are both 6fps+ so can handle my limited sports shooting, my move to FF with be for city/landscapes, close-ups, macro and a few portraits which are 90-95% of my shooting.
There are only a few things the 5D3 has that are nice to haves; the AF, dual cards and the durability of the body. The 6D has it's pluses also, light weight (that I need), the interchangeable focusing screens (I've some manual FD glass I'm keeping), the WiFi smartphone connection, only the AF is suspect...I'm guessing the IS/ISO performance is much the same, we'll see when the 6D reviews come out!
I'm waiting to see how the EOS M is, if an M-to-FD adapter comes out for it I'm mostly hoping my FD glass will get more interesting, Plus my timeline to buy is realistically sometime early/middle next year, not in a rush, I've my eyes on the 100L IS Macro 1st
Beautiful, beautiful images these last several pages...
John, the Swiss panos are great, such fun finding the crops - it called to mind something else; have you seen those Gigapan cityscapes?
Peter, the double in flight sure caught my eye - I was trying to figure out your depth of field techniques when you mentioned it was the same duck...and I was flicking back-and-forth trying to compare focus and thinking "this must be some inbred flock, even their neck stripes have the same feather pattern..." Great stuff...
Other Jerry, I once thought I'd never sell my 5DII, running it until expiration like my old Toyota, but a couple hours with the focus array of a 5DIII turned me around...center-point focusing is reliable and everything, but being able to focus without recomposing is also a lot of fun...I'm just sayin', don't settle if you don't have to; of the three or four you've mentioned (the three 5D's and the coming 6D), you know you really can't go wrong...
Here are some from today and yesterday; gear is in the exif or captions...
Jerry
Tripod-mounted 100L
Crop of the above (I LOVE late afternoon backlight! You can almost see the cell-structure!))
With 300 f/2.8L Mk.I; tough choice, but I sold my 400 DO to get one again...
Early this morning, and all I had with me was a 135L...regardless, a sight to remember...
Jerry, dude you are just spoiling my eyes, your 5D3 images are wonderful...stop it please, no don't
I'll join the FF crew soon, great set of images, love them all, the last with the 135L is...WOW!
Tenn.Jer, that last post is pretty damn awesome! Love the macro shots and the 4th shot featuring the shafts of light through the trees really caught my eye.
And 15Bit, the snow laden leaves with the ethereal backlight works very well indeed!
Leaves mostly down, grass turning brown, raining... typical Swedish fall. These guys were chilling outside out house one morning this week. 7D + 500L. My one year old son thinks they are some sort of weird cow and keeps going "mooooooo" when seeing them.
