I hope all the Canon suits had an early meeting this morning to discuss lowering the price on the soon-to-be-released 6D... if they don't undercut the D600 pricing, they're going to be in a world of hurt.

Yes, more pressure on Canon in the FF area. Nikon and Sony have the lead currently in the FF field. Excellent for us customers since prices gonna drop! As I said before, 5D III prices will be standardized $2700 or likely even lower end of this year.

Latter I am with you . Again!
But where did you got your information about Sony having the lead currently in the FF field. As far I see, sony is still not offering any FF camera yet?

Probably better weather sealing and build quality.
Better AF
Buffer (but this isn't a known entity yet)
Live view implementation (hopefully Nikon fixed the broken implementation)
ergonomics (this is a personal choice - D700 > 5D mark II/III > D7K ergonomics for me)

Not an owner, but the first thing that sprung to mind was an extra 2 stops of high ISO for a start.

CF cards aren't really "a feature" but the fact is most people looking for an FX cam probably have a couple hundred $ worth.

1/8000 shutter

41 cross-type AF points vs 9

All fairly small differences, but the 5DIII is a mack daddy cam, the first 5D that stands as a proper pro cam on it's own merits, whereas the D600 is obviously built to a budget.

They can not without taping or using a Kenko.
I am pretty sure D600 will not provide great results. They just let it in as a marketing gag to afront Canon.

Speed and AF have always been the chief differentiators of Canon cameras. From what I gather, the 5D III's AF system is the best on the market, second only to the 1D X. That's worth something. Perhaps quite a lot.

My interest in this body is no more or less than a Sony body. A nice piece of kit, but only if the rest of the system holds up. Canon has a better lens line.

I'm curious. Is it the extra 2M pixels that makes it a better sensor, or do you have some insight on it's performance? I mean, specs are one thing, real life shooting are another.

To some the 2MP might be important, but for me it's all about the sensor performance (Exmor). Canon is way behind now.

I have never suggested that I'm better than anyone. I put my pants on the same as anyone else, one leg at a time. I'm better than no man or woman.

As far as bullying someone when a new camera
Comes out...where does that come from? I'm using 2009 1divs and 7d...I just stopped this year using 1diiis and prior to that 5d...seriously, I'm bullying someone on new cameras??!! That makes no sense.

I am not a fan of high prices either. While I am
Not a fan I am also a reasonable human being realizing things cost money and improvements generally are more. In the case of the 24-70, I'm not thrilled but also for
Crying out loud it replaces an old
Lens design that has had low prices for awhile. The r and d made their money back many times I imagine. So I understand that it costs more.

I understand why rebels are 8-10fps with dual card slots at the price point they are. I understand to play the game I've got to pay. I don't sit front row at concerts for general admission seating.

I don't like it, but I understand it. I don't "bully" you with anything, and truthfully if you are threatened by a guy in another country with at least a reasonable opinion (I feel my opinion is reasonable) then you have your own confidence problems. At no point have I bullied you. At no point have I threatened you. At no point did I even type on my keyboard hard.

To play devils advocate, why are you permitted to say that it's crippled, but I am not permitted to say that lesser models have lesser features? Why are you permitted to call me

I truly am sorry for someone who has lost someone they love let alone more than one. Taking your frustration out on me isn't the answer. If you want someone to talk to, pm me, call me, email me. Whatever, I'll be glad to talk. Don't lash out at me though, that's not the answer. Anger isn't a good healing tool.

Regarding beni, sorry if you see me as a problem. I'm not
Sure why, but MANY people have told me they enjoy my upfront pull no punches attitude. Look, we have busy lives. Do you want to read a matter of fact yes or no, or do you want to read thirty two walls of
Text that beat around it? How would you have worded my comment? I truly see nothing wrong with it, and many other forum members seem to feel that I've done nothing wrong.

I won't lie, I am a conversational guy. I love a chat, I love social interaction. Sometimes I rub people the wrong way, sometimes I don't. I'm not malicious by nature and I can assure you what I say isn't meant with malicious intent.

I just call things the way I see them. A spade is a spade.

On the topic of the camera, I'm not sure really why they did it. It's interesting everything is going full frame, I enjoyed a full frame camera when I used them and I am thinking of buying a 5d3 beginning of next year. I'm torn between the new 24-70 and the 5d3. I like my mkivs but the full frame sensor is a nice tool.

Maybe we will see the 3d materialize as an entry level full frame rather than a mini 1 series.

In a pro's hands, not much of a difference at all. Someone with adequate skill would be able to capture the same images with both bodies and then have the better sensor performance of the D600. Anyone who claims the slight advantages of the 5DIII would make a huge difference in the end product would be eligible for the old 5DII argument when AF didn't seem to matter - "don't blame the tool for your shortcomings"...

I do not believe this, Robert. Since going back from D60 to 10D (in naming) Canon was always on its nameline. I guess they would sooner start to use even numbers instead of choosing the "3" for an entry level FF.

Ithing thei will do none of both. They just will change the 7 status to FF. So all single numbered bodies will be FF.

For now nobody knows if it is an Exmor sensor. If it is it should have better IQ in high ISO than the D800.
But they gave the new body the same ISO range ...

Seems to me that excluding the 1D series, Nikon rule the full frame body market in terms of price and features. Hopefully Canon are about to blow our socks off with their next generation of FF bodies, either on price, or features.

Every Nikon announcement these days is so impressive.

Just the execution was less impressive. Their QC is currently not so good, I am sure you know what I am referring to. I was tempted by the D800e when the AF issues surfaced and still not resolved until now. In addition, their CS is also not so good. You have to ship on your own dime for recalls/repair; that's lame.

And concerning me: the better lens lineup

I guess all stands and falls with high ISO IQ. If it is an Exmor and the IQ at high iso is not better than D800/5D III it is an interesting entry level body. If it is better, it still lacks AF and AFs sensitivness (for me). And again the back wheel. It may sound silly, but after I started with Eos 5 (film, not D) I got so used to this feature that I could not get along with one inbetween Rebell without it, neither with D700 (that else is a great camera).

However even the D300 has an AF-ON button for crying out loud, it's not like Nikon would be pushing the envelope by including one, all the fixed costs are done and paid for a million times over probably.

The D7000 also didn't have an AF-ON button, but the AE-L button could be reprogrammed for it -- I expect to see the same option with the D600 since it seems to have the D7000's heritage.
