p.2 #1 · Anyone Running an iMac with Thunderbolt Externals?

I had been using an R6 until I finally got fed up with it due to HDD failures. Maybe I got a lemon. I sent it back. Still working with Firewire now and USB 3.0 off a 2011 topped out MBP connected to external monitors (55 incher and a 59 incher) and an 8-core Mac Pro for rendering. Thunderbolt is great for transfer speed but sustained use had caused my arrays to go nutz. The speed was good while it lasted but repair times had put me behind too much so I canned it until they release more stable arrays.

Im using a 2011 15" 2.2ghz MBP 6GB RAM with a 70gb HDD and 240GB Samsun SSD partitioned into a "boot" and a "ssd working". I'll store my active library or two on the SSD partition while im working on it, then transferring to a FW800 2TB for archives when completed.

I used to stay plugged into a 24" ACD but it seems to overly tax the GPU and I get serious lag, to the point of being unusable at times.

Plan on upgrading to a new imac when they finally come out. 2GB GPU, 32GB RAM, etc. leave at my office, then getting a new 13" macbook air to keep for working at home. Also plan on setting up a JBOD tower for the office with a few 3TB fast HDDs via USB 3.0 and backup within using CCC. Thunderbolt peripherals are not really cost-effective yet. If I keep doing more and more video I may have to look into it though.

I have a 27" imac and picked this up: http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-GoFlex-Thunderbolt-Adapter-STAE122/dp/B007IJ7UKE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1347333543&sr=8-2&keywords=seagate+thunderbolt

I plopped a SSD drive on there and use it to copy work to, work on it, and then copy BACK to my drobo. Means that while I work, I work fast. Use my Drobo now just for storage. If that SSD ever craps out, I just pull it off, and plug another on there. It's a great/inexpensive solution for now!
