Two years from now, you'll be out a grand or so on upgraded components,
instead of $2500-3000 on the new high-end whatever-it-is.
But that new price should deduct resale value of the replaced iMac,
right? Doing a quick check of eBay pricing for a 2010 27" iMac i7,
I see offers (that's different from sales, yes :o) in the $1,500 range.
But, yes, I do think that many users would prefer a iMac for which
the back could be popped off w/ease for upgrading parts vs. some
slight slenderizing as though the device is to stand in an art gallery.

pay thousands for something you could have bough two years ago for the same price as a PC
anybody wanna buy my 18 month old iMac? even with 12 gb of ram it lags like crazy editing 5d files in Lightroom. what a joke.
That sounds really something going wrong somewhere, being a relatively new piece of hardware it is not supposed to have lags that you are mentioning. You may need to look into hardware issues somewhere.
I'm not interested in converting this into MAC v/s PC thread as I've used both and know both have limitations. So is this your opinion or quoting from some fact that you could back up
