Ok so has anyone seen anything like this before?
I have owned several 1 series cameras as well as 5d's--but never seen anything like this.
Called Canon they say without being able to look at it that the sensor must be bad.
Make sure DPP conversion get the same results...anything in decoder can be happen with new cam. I've always verified with DPP before moving on to another RAW converter.

It looks like this on the camera's lcd screen too
Looks like the sensor's read-out channels are unbalanced. I've seen it before on other cameras. Happens every once in a while. You'll need a new camera or sensor.

What's wrong with Canon QC now-a-day, hard to believe but this body is their top dog
I know, how could they let this go out of the factory?
looks like the read out amps might be bad, the 7D gain banding has the same every 8 pixels vertical changes, although not in such a mess like this, but the pattern of it hints at some sort of bad read out amps, looks like it has to go back

unless you pay leica prices you won't give but a small percentage of goods tested and inspected before shipment (granted some may say the top line 1 series ARE Leica prices)
Even Leica and other high end companies doesn't have 100% success rate on new items. It's crummy when it happens to you, but it's just the law of averages. It's nice it's just a matter of getting another body exchanged.
