Are the photos you have taken with it since you got it not worth it? I paid full price also and the photos from the summer are definately worth it. This camera was overpriced for its segment and environment. It will settle around $2500-$2700 this winter and will continue to lower in price over the next 2 years.

I am in the same boat and paid the same amount as you did. I have enjoyed that camera tremendously for over 5 months since the day I got mine in March. Those things bound to happen and really, it is to be expected. With that said, only Beach as a legit source, so far has been able to offer that kind of price and to my knowledge, nobody else. So, the actual MSRP is still up there.... if that makes you feel better .
Yeah...talk about advertising for noobs!
