I work with my wife and I feel your pain about really having no one to go to about this. I think you are right on about not getting upset with her. I try to not to get upset with my wife when she drops stuff (and she does A LOT) but it is hard.
Guys have a much easier time separating the business side of things from the relationship side of things. I understand that but will never understand that... if you know what I mean
At this point there is not much you can do besides just accept that she is clumsy and move on. You could try what Tony said but I think it might just piss her off. It would piss my wife off If I tried to do something just to prove a point like that.
Also I do not think it is terrible to vent as some have said. Maybe a public forum is not the best place but you said nothing that was hurtful or disrespectful...you just needed someplace to air your thoughts.

This is a great reminder for me of why it's not a good idea for me to work with a spouse/friend/family-member. I go into work mode and don't deal well with mixing relationships with that. I can't work with anyone I can't fire if need be! if my assistant dropped three lenses in one day... Eek.

IMO, there's nothing wrong with the OP venting a little bit. He didn't say anything derogatory about his wife, just vented to some colleagues about his bad luck. He also didn't say he wasn't insured. He very may well have full insurance but it's still going to be a frustrating experience to get the gear fixed, rent other lenses for shoots in the meantime, etc., etc.

Honestly... they are lenses, just pieces of glass and electronics. They can be replaced or repaired. Your wife is a living, breathing person, that has feelings.. she can't be replaced or repaired... that should be so much higher on your list of priorities.
I work with my wife every single weekend. I love the fact that we get to spend so much time together, doing something we both love, seeing people and families in love.

Totally agree
It is hard to work with a spouse but I would not have it any other way. We have an amazing time together, even if we want to kill each other sometimes

Remember this story ?
It is just material.
"A man was polishing his new car; his 4 yr old daughter picked up a stone and scratched on the side of the car. In anger, the furious Man took his child’s hand & hit it many times, not realizing he was using a wrench. At the hospital, the child lost all his fingers due to multiple fractures.
When the child saw her father, with painful eyes he asked ‘Dad when will my fingers grow back?’ The man was so hurt and speechless. He went back to the car and kicked it many times. Devastated by his own actions, sitting in front of the car he looked at the scratches, His daughter had written ‘LOVE YOU DAD’."

wife dropped 4 primes straight out of the bag when she was getting out of the car on concrete sidewalk during a wedding. From around 4 feet high 3 lenses survived, the Siggy 85 had a loose focusing ring. I got it fixed, cost me $200. Luckily I have insurance for all of this. If you don't have insurance, get it. It's worth it.

Step 1. Get the lenses sent out to get repaired
Step 2. (assuming what I'm about to say is true) Talk frankly with your wife and let her know that you appreciate her help and being able to do this with her way more than you care about a lens or three
Step 3. Buy her some hot lingerie, make her dinner and then tell her that while you do love her to bits and you're totally over the incident and looking forward to the repaired glass come back, you still think your assistant needs to be disciplined* for her actions
Keep in mind that if you do too good a job with the disciplining she might be inclined to drop lenses more often ... in which case I'd just buy up a few banged up 50mm 1.8 used on ebay
Alessandro
P.S. If it's not obvious that I'm totally joking and that the "disciplining" is totally meant as a jestful way to get over this hurdle and have a nice hot night witht he wife then bugger off
