just want to report back. I borrowed a nikon 1.8g from my friend and did some quick comparison. My copy of sigma focuses as accurate as nikon. The siggy is indeed faster and has better bokeh. The difference is not much, but noticeable. I think I might just sell the siggy for now and in future if I really need a 85, I will buy the nikon.

I'm unsure why people seem to think the Sigma is sharper than the G. Heck the old 1.8D was sharper than the Sigma unless you were shooting 1.4 which the lens doesn't have.
The Sigma lens to put it nicely is known to have a jackhammer AF.
I should try to shoot all 3 together again to post up samples. A good copy of the 1.8D is stupidly sharp just the bokeh is choppy. The 1.8g was slightly sharper but marginally so to the point you wouldn't notice it on a decent sized print but the bokeh was a huge improvement. When the Sigma focuses its great. Sharpness is good, contrast is ok, bokeh is pleasing. When the focus goes to crap which doesn't take long you'll understand why the 1.8G is a good alternative.
I'd tell anyone though if you can live with the bokeh on the 1.8D its by far the better deal of the 3.
I hate the polygonal bokeh on the 1.8D. Just. Cannot. Stand. It. Personal preference and all, of course. The 1.8G does seem much better. But if I had a good copy of the Sigma that I already owned, I'd just keep that one and be done with it. Simple solutions are generally better.
