p.1 #1 · Gymnastics: Some of my favorite Olympic Moments
Wow, finally wrapped up 3 weeks of gymnastics coverage for USA Gymnastics in London. What an experience that was! As much as I'm loving it here, I am ready to come home!!!
Here are some of my favorite Olympic moments. No action shots, as I think the entire Olympic experience is more than just capturing the action. The emotional aspect of it is just as important, if not more.
I think I used every piece of gear I brought: 3 D4s, 1 D800, 14-24, 24-70, 70-200, 200/2, 200-400, 400, 600. The D800 was great for awards ceremony and team shots, you'll see why when you get to the last image of this post. I used the 400 for floor and 600 for bars and awards a few times. Imagine that, I can say I now have shot gymnastics with a 600!
#4 McKayla Maroney, the best vaulter in the world, reacts after her vault during the team competition. Her score was 16.233 out of possible 16.500. Best vault I have ever capture in my entire gymnastics career. http://pics.john-cheng.com/usag/oly/oly-005.jpg
#12 Sam Mikulak receives a big hug from his coach Kurt Golder from University of Michigan after he stuck his 2nd vault at individual apparatus finals http://pics.john-cheng.com/usag/oly/oly-013.jpg
#16 Here is the mock up of the Corn Flakes box. The final version looks even better. I literally had 5 seconds to take this shot after the team won gold. No one else has the same shot as it was exclusive to USAG backstage. Nice to be in the circle! D800 and 24-70. http://pics.john-cheng.com/usag/oly/oly-017.jpg

John: While I'm speechless regarding your captures (thus my initial post), I do want to say that it would be easy to look at these photos without giving a second thought to how hard you worked to get them. I can't imagine what was involved, but I'll bet you worked your ass off, and I'm hopeful you feel it was well worth your effort. From where I sit, that's a big 10-4!

Thanks all. Didn't mean to post an run. I posted these before I left London and just now getting around to checking the post.
Like Russ pointed out, there was a lot to cover in addition to shooting the meets. But the trip itself was well worth it, especially in the negotiation with Kellogg's on the image for the Corn Flakes box!
