This is a strange CL for me because instead of learning new things I'm being reminded of things I already know and have been trying not to do for quite some time now.
When he was talking about his contract,... the part about how the client is familiar with the photographer's portfolio, and understands that the artist is constantly evolving... etc. etc...
He said he got that part from Steven Spielberg. I thought it was brilliantly written. Basically, it said that the client has to be happy with the artistic view of the photographer, and can't come back later and complain (or sue) because their pictures didn't look like the other pictures in the photographer's portfolio.
did anyone write that part down, or have a similar paragraph in their contract? I'd like to add it to mine.
I liked his observation about the difference between his high-end clients of today and the mid-market clients he used to shoot before he ascended to where he is today. He said the largest print today's client buys is 8x10 or maybe 11x14. He said his old client buys a 30x40 "of everyone jumping".
