There's base team of four to address these issues:
The guy in bright yellow punches (gets him pissed) and the bull chases him into a pen. Yellow scrambles up a 7' fence flips on the other side and the bull is lead into a holding pen (that's when things go good.). Yellow has a helper on foot.
Kudos to the clowns. Yellow and the one with the Star. It is one thing to be distracting the bull, leading him away from a fallen rider but the response to the hang up, in getting around and over the top to release the rider is soo together.
Nice series. I used to ride homeschool and since 2 had no full time clowns we each had too take our turns. Still not sure to this day which was scarier and more exciting at the same time.

one would think after over a hundred years of rodeo some guy would have thought of a way to never have this happen to the riders hand/rope again

Its because we use rosin, some black (very sticky) and some white (sticky) plus the wrap makes it difficult. Usually when riders get "hung up" it's because when you are tossed, your hand is still clinched plus the heated rosin is sticky, making for some rough moments.
Us riders know the risk of everything, far more dangerous than being hung up is that gigantic bone on the top of their heads...hence helmets.
Oh and by the way, never call a bullfighter a clown. They are two completely different people with two different roles. Bullfighters encourage bulls in directions out of the gate and also help riders in case of hang ups and help to distract the bull once the rider is off. Clowns are for the crowd, making retarded jokes.
Weird, they usually only rope them when the rider is off and the bull won't go to the back of the shoots. Seems a bit premature to try to "rope" the bull with the rider still hung up. lol
BTW, since I crapped all over your thread, I do want to say, great photos! You definitely make me wanna go out and photograph a rodeo.
Same here and the opportunities around San Antonio are abundant. Used to live in Bandera where there's always a rodeo going on. Would love to try it again but at 45 and spine issues from top to bottom maybe not a good choice. Maybe best to stay behind the scenes and take the photos now days. And yess too much rosin can kill you with the wrong wrap envolved, almost works like a noose. The more pressure put on the tighter it gets.
