We never get Lightning in Portland... in the 6 years I've lived in this house we've had a storm like this over downtown just one other time that I've noticed. Sometimes the sky will light up, but never directly over the city, offering this composition. Unfortunately it's not the sharpest photo... not sure why. It was on a Gitzo 3 series carbon tripod (3 leg section), 4 seconds, ISO100, f5.3, 18mm (center cropped). The tripod is on a cantelivered deck overhanging the cliff, so perhaps it's just due to the instability of that? I stood motionless against the house using a Nikon ML-3 wireless remote for the photos... I could literally feel the vibration in my feet when the shutter opened (M-UP).
I'm sure if you would have your apeture at f8 or f11 it would have all been in focus. It is an awesome shot no matter what. The lightning is in great focus!!
