arizona at this time of year is AWESOME. as a big north american lister, i have been to southeastern arizona numerous times, and i plan on going back again next year if the chips fall properly. the main attraction for birders is the myriad of mexican birds that stray north at this time of year. hummingbirds lead the list of birds for which folks are looking. there are many spots to see hummers in southeastern az, but madera canyon in the santa ritas, ramsey canyon in the huachucas (sierra vista is the closest town to ramsey canyon) and cave creek canyon in the chiricahuas are all awesome. lake patogonia and the surrounding area are also great. you really can't go wrong with any of the spots down there. wilcox playa is one of the few wetland areas in southeastern az and normally has lots of shorebirds and waterfowl. there are a ton of good spots. if you're really serious, then get the tucson audubon society guide to birdfinding in southeastern arizona, it will tell you EVERYTHING you would need to know. you can tell how much i like birding in the area! let me know if you need any more information.

I remember going to Sierra Vista in early April one year and we had to have our car's A/C turned on. So, no surprise.
That's what my husband keeps saying. Let's go to AZ in the winter

dorian sums it up quite nicely!
Sierra Vista may be a little warm, but once you get up into some of the canyons, you gain elevation and some slightly cooler temps. If you're lucky enough to catch a nice monsoon storm this time of year (which se Az has been getting a lot of lately) temps will drop considerably in a matter of minutes.
Thanks, I was excited when I read dorian's post. I've been vetoed though
