Perhaps he should test another. I will say that it isn't quite as sharp in the corners as I expected, though still good (and my impression is that it's sharper than the Panasonic 7-14). It does flare like crazy with the sun in the frame. I've got more samples showing that that I'll post later today.
Weird... cause Darren Miles (he also post on these forums from time to time btw) seem to really like it. He gives it a 49/50 rating, apparently the second lens he's ever rated that high.
I doubt it's a piece of crap...
Judging from the photos I've seen so far, it's everything but a piece of crap.
Judging from how well regarded the other Olympus Pro zoom are, I doubt it even more. I just bought the 40-150 and it might very well be the sharpest lens I've seen or owned. Even the Pan-Leica doesn't seem to match it for sharpness wide open (then again the PL is F1.4 so a big difference).
Ok. Some shots from this morning. You can see on the first one how bad the flare can get if the sun is in the frame. It was like this at all focal lengths and similar at all apertures. Otherwise, it's a pretty good lens.

Based on his blog, Diggloyd who is apparently testing the Oly 7-14mm thinks it's a piece of C**P
Diggloyd is a pretty big Leica/Zeiss fanboy, regardless of what he tries to say otherwise.
Granted, most Zeiss/Leica are very good lenses indeed, but I used to have a paid subscription to all his sites and when reading through some lens reviews / comparisons (which were/are pretty thorough and usually well done), I couldn't help but seriously disagree with SOME of his sample images side-by-side -- he'd talk about how the Leica/Zeiss lens was better than the <insert name here> lens, yet closely reviewing the sections he was referring to yielded virtually indistinguishable results. It's like he's very hesitant to proclaim a lens matches / beats a Leica (and a bit less so, Zeiss).
I'd like to thank I have a pretty darn good eye for detail.
So, either Lloyd has 1/10th pixel accuracy and can spot differences even software can't, or he's biased, which most of us are on some level or another.
Also, could be sample variation.
Edit -- Or, it could be he compares every lens he reviews to the BEST lens he's ever tested for a given FOV, regardless of what formats they are.

Funny, I had the same feeling when I subscribed to his page. It was never the less interesting Reading and good reviews but I always felt they should be taken with a quite big grain of salt.
Man, I love the looks of that 7-14mm but I just can't justify it at the moment when it costs $1600 CDN. Will have to wait for a used copy especially knowing it will just duplicate my 14-24mm on my D800.
What I read from Diglloyd regarding smaller formats (anything smaller than 35mm size) made it sound like he considered them a waste of time ... so I'm surprised he keeps looking at them.
Another with the 40-140, this time with TC14 on it.
Hmmm too much quality loss in the uploads here now since FM limited the file size to 750k. How do I link pictures to be shown from my homepage or flickr or 500px?
