Why?!
Groceries.
jotdeh wrote:
- What were your needs and expectations when you bought it?
I had used it for ~25 years
jotdeh wrote:
- Were there shortcomings you didn't expect?
The MFD, balance on a tripod, difficulty focussing when in a contorted position, and color fringes in the bokeh were bugging me.

I replaced it with the same optics in a Novoflex mount. I've learned to deal with the color fringes, and the Novoflex focussing mount solves all the other problems.

CZ 100-300
Minolta AF 100-200
I sold a Zuiko 50/1.4 to someone in Moldova and it freaking took 2 months to get there. And then it broke shortly after he got it. I think cuz he opened it as it needed cleaning - I dunno... So I sent him another one for free anyway - that was over a month ago... and it's still not there yet. Weirdest sale ever... Moral: Avoid sending lenses to countries you've never heard of!

I have so many Zuikos, Leicas and Zeisses now that Canon L has become my alt. Sure enough, just sold my 300 f4 non-IS. Great lens, I'll miss it, but I wasn't using it enough to justify keeping it.
Had it for five years, and my net-to-me selling price was within $100 USD of what I paid for it. As far as I'm concerned, ALL good used camera lenses hold their value.

Yeah, it's kinda like hoarding gold stores. If kept, I'll always have about $50k liquidate-able within a few months time - in whichever currency I choose (or whichever survives if a crash happens).

Been playing with a Canon FD 100 S.C. Macro and a Vivitar 70-210 s1v3. The Vivitar is a sweet lens, though hard to focus at longer focal lengths. The Canon is also nice, but I think I may prefer my Rokunar 55 FD macro just because of the size factor.

A few weeks ago I sold my Cosina Voigtlander 90/3.5 and 75/2.5 both SL I versions. They're both great lenses, but since getting my Nex 5n and now Nex 7, I no longer have any interest in using MF lenses on a camera that doesn't have an EVF (with image magnification and focus peaking). I now have the M mount version of the CV 75/2.5 to use on my NEXs and there may be a 90 Summicron in my future.

What made you sell the 1.7? Not fast enough or something else?
Apologies for delayed reply due work travel.
No, I had absolutely no issues with the 50/1.7, but I saw a 1.4 at a good price, and for once wanting to economise, I sold the 50/1.7 to the guy I had previously bought a 1D Mk III from. I should also have kept the 1.7 perhaps...
Bifurcator - like hoarding gold I bought another N1 and 24-85 recently, as I feel the lens will appreciate in time. In the meantime, I have a top-notch film camera and lens (Buying MF lenses has also drawn me back to shooting film occasionally).
GC5 - I also have a PK-A fit Viv Ser 1 70-210/2.8, from my film days. Luckily I had kept it, but it's rarely used now. I may sell it in time.

I've sold a couple now. A bit sad but I just need the funds more than the lenses right now.
CY 50/1.7 AE... I really liked the rendering, compactness and speed, though I usually shot at least at 2 or 2.8. Though I don't think there are any optical differences (most importantly the aperture blades don't cause ninja bokeh like the 50/1.4 AE does) but I think that when I get to replace it I will make it an MM one. The all white numbers just look too plain for my liking Maybe I'll give the 1.4 MM a try...
The CY 80-200 I will surely miss the most. It's just such a versatile zoom including very decent close focus, and lightweight. Especially for product photos and flowers I think it's outstanding value.

Rokkor 21/2.8
After having had the extremely crisp Contax G 21/2.8 with its corner issues for a while I got this one from ebay to use on a NEX 5N. Possibly the best looking thing you can put on a NEX5N. Zero corner issues and great colors but not even close to the Zeiss resolution. Later I also got the ZE 21/2.8 for the 5D2 so now there were not a chance that I would put it on either cam so I let it go.

Leitax adapted zeiss 21mm f2.8 zf.2
Moving away from dslrs. Also realized it wasn't corner to corner sharpness that made the pic but being there with the right camera at the right time with the right pov. A small ultra wide zoom fits that need a bit better right now at least.

In the my recent reorganization, sold the following:
ZE 35/2 (getting by with Canon 16-35L II and Samyang 35/1.4)
ZE 21/2.8 (using Canon 16-35L II and 24 TS-E instead)
Leica R 28/2.8 v.1 (too much curvature of field and vignetting)

Contax Zeiss 35-70 zoom
Since acquiring Leica 35mm and 50mm Summicron lenses I found myself rarely using the zoom. I also found that at a given f stop the fixed focal length primes were giving me more depth of field than the zoom.
