Thanks for compliments all. He really was a treat to watch.
Jim McCann, he has created quite a stir! This same bear is believed to have charged three hikers yesterday on the old trail that starts across from the Potter Railroad Station House. All trailhead access points along Turnagain Arm are closed today, all the way down to Windy Point.
I did climb up to about the 900ft level and came across some sheep and lambs, recent newborns. May try again today, but will definitely keep an eye out for bears as the placenta scents attract them.
After decades of climbing all over the mountains pursuing Dall sheep, I'd not gotten a saleable image of a young lamb until one day driving south out of busy downtown Anchorage and coming upon a ewe with a lamb. My then 12 year old son held his hand to my back so as to keep me from stepping back into the speeding traffic. My tripod mounted Canon 300 f2.8 was just over the white shoulder marking line. Wildlife, given the option they will do whatever pleases them. Worked for me that day, and this bear certainly worked for you!
