OK. I saw this and had to stop what I was doing and quickly capture something. Fun exercise.
Sony NEX-5N, Contax Zeiss 45mm f2.0 G Planar, at f2.0 and 12,800 ISO (the NEX apparently doesn't do 10,000 ISO). It's my friend's dog and she is patiently waiting for her master's return. You can palpably feel the anticipation and longing in her eyes. http://www.boncratious.com/images/Disney1.jpg
Wow, you might have won the contest! Mistaking ambivalence for envy is worth almost a thousand bonus points. Good marks for the use of "invidiousness" and the general tone of umbrage. Unfortunately you forgot to end the post with "Sure it has some grain, but it's very film like" so you might be disqualified - Joseph will have to be the judge I guess!
Also forgot to post an image....and camera/lens combo...sorry, disqualified.
Honestly, I thought this would be a fun exercise to shoot in somewhat extreme conditions outside of most of our comfort zones. I have no hate at all towards Leica owners, and am genuinely happy that someone finally had the gonads to launch a monochrome sensor camera.
That said, I do envy D800E owners and wish a meteor storm would come down upon their collective heads so that their cameras could be mine....mine....all MINE!
Yes, in honor of the M9, we'll certainly allow 2500 pushed to 10,000.
Sorry if this is a stupid question... so if I shot at ISO 2500, just need to push it +2 to get to ISO 10000, right? Just want to double check before I run out and take a shot.
In all honesty, I'm probably going to buy an old legacy camera next month and just shoot B&W for a while. (probably an old Minolta or Nikon, not a Leica)
I have to say the new Leica camera did push me more and finally pushed me to take the idea out of the backburner and into the fire.

Yes...don't forget to underexpose by 2 stops as well.
To work each day, I walk up these flight of stairs.
From atop, the sun provides the only light.
M9+ZM C-Sonnar @f2, the "Monochrom" it's not.
Sure it has some grain, but it's very film-like.
@FlyPenFly: Brandt's work is staggeringly good. I must have had my head under a rock for a few years because I only discovered his work a couple of years ago. I've still got all my B&W darkroom gear in a box and swear periodically I'm going to shoot some 4x5 B&W again but it never actually happens
Couple more shots coming me coming this evening. My wife is out of town, so I am going to try an artistic approach inspired by the great Hemingway- that is to say, booze fueled.

but the cats eyes mean probably a cheap lens?
more likely just a fast lens. nearly any f/1.4 or faster lens can show cat's eyes wide open (even the 50 lux asph). that grain looks a bit digital to me...
