Watch connoisseurs who care don't care because it's beyond that level. You don't pay 250k for a MB&F just because it's rare.
Watch collecting is like art collecting when you're talking about pieces that are tens of thousands. You don't not get a monet because people have prints of it on their wall.

Also can't believe I'm defending Rolex right now, it's one of my least favorite brands like Canon. But it's like walking into a watch forum and having naive watch collectors dismiss Canon because everyone has a canon point and shoot.

Do you really belive that most people buying them are watch collectors who buy them because the collect expensive watches?
I don't know, do you believe most people buying any canon camera are photographers? Does that make Canon any less relevant as one of the most important companies in photography?
Look at the history of Rolex, they're among the most significant brands in fine watches next to breguet, Blancpain, and even AP.
I am lucky in that I can call some serious collectors with over a million in watches my friends. None of them would be foolish to dismiss Rolex in the same way nobody who knows cameras would dismiss say Zeiss or Leica.

I think you just want to bash Rolex and it puts me in an awkward position of defending them since I am not their biggest fan but it's honestly one of the most important and historically significant brands in Horology.
Their contribution to the modern luxury watch ad we know it today is as important as canon or Kodak in photography, perhaps even moreso in their respective industry.
Now if you were to bash on panerai or Hublot or Blancpain, that would be a much More interesting conversation since their prices are highly questionable to their historical merits and luxury value.

You have probably not even been reading the post here, I don't want to bash Rolex. I wrote that they are accesories like jewellery. And that there are many copies.
It's not all about your your watch collecting or your rich friends so you don't have to defend anything

Rich people who spend thousends of dollars on an expensive watch, they don't like to see everyone on the street wearing the same watch
If you stay in S.E.Asia or China you will have ten people coming up to you every day of the year and like to sell a Rolex
I pity your ignorance and arrogance.
There is no watch peddlers or demand for fake Rolex watches in the western world?
Local people in Singapore wear real Rolex watches. There is no watch peddlers selling fake Rolex watches in Singapore. If you do not know, Singapore is located in SE Asia.

There are watch peddlers even in Singapore. And I have been asked to buy both Rolex and other stuff from them. But not at all in the same amount as other countries in S.E.Asia. And remember how small Singapore is when talking about S.E.Asia and China. And they will approach tourist and people that look like tourist mostly. Like they do in the other countries also.
Of course there are demand for faked watches in the Western world. That's why the watch peddlers approach tourist and western people.
FFS, give it up. This started as a thread about the new products from Leica then it turned into a Leica bashing thread and now you're bitching about watches...
