Yes of course but that was not the question here. Did you read it ?

I wrote that the Leica supply is very tight because they make so few lenses. Any brand would be tight if they did the same.
Actually the post I replied to claimed Leica was underpriced not overpriced

I would guess that Canon and Nikon sell just as few super-teles as Leica sells normal lenses, and that the supply and demand is a lot more stable since there is enough glass like this around to cover most needs already.

I sure that if Nikon/Canon/Sony/Fuji or Oly, came up with a FF body, that would accept M lenses, and worked without IQ compromise, there would be a massive following, and I know I would jump at the opportunity too. My hopes were on the Fuji X Pro, having pre ordered the system, but then cancelling the order once the real evaluations were coming in. I think the Fuji X Pro, is a great system, and hopefully with the next versions, the issues have been improved, and so is the NEX systems too.

The M 8/9 shortcomings have been well documented, and discussed and debated in full, yet it does not hinder, the many photogs taking tens of thousands of shots. For those for who the M system does not suit, they move on! Any one following the M thread, realise we all have our wish lists, hopefully sooner than later!!

I really don't understand, the prestige/luxury tag that is being associated with Leica. I personally love the system, as I can walk streets in Asia, in the back streets at night, and having the ability to take shots, and being relatively unobtrusive. For portraits, it disarms people, as it appears as a lowly "old" film cam, except for people who recognise the M9. Previously, I had the 5D II, with ZE lenses, and the image to people in streets, was that of a professional with the latest Canon gear, which most people did recognise. The weight and size of the Canon set up, was a killer too when travelling on planes, and walking many hours along the streets and temples. The weight and size factor is a huge consideration my part, but of course at a price, as I had injured my back, with horse training about 10 years ago, so reducing my bulk of my cam equipment in weight and size is a must.

Previous to digital, I used a Nikon film cams, and migrated to the Oly OM-4, for size and weight when travelling to remote areas. The form factor of the Oly OM-4, is in many ways similar to the M9 and was not as easily recognised, as a Nikon then. I know a lot of my friends did black out the the Nikon, to make it less obtrusive, including myself

What has this to do with new "Leica New Products"? I applaud any camera manufacturer that is researching and developing new concepts and designs, even it appears out in left field, niched marketing, particularly in this economic environment The market will determine, very quickly if the M-M, is a brilliant concept or not, as a pre emptive step to the M10. It would seem the M10 will be announced at Photokina, even though the compact mirrorless interchangeable model is being delayed! Strategically, this may be smart move by Leica, as do not have competition for the M10 as a RF, but there may be many APS sized mirrorless interchangeable lens cams being presented at Photokina.

Yes the supply and demand is a lot more stable with those lenses. But I also belive they sell a lot more than the Leica in the same price range. There are so many pro's using them at sport shooting. Just turn on your TV any weekend and you will see those big lenses at every fotball game. And together that makes thousends of lenses just at those games

One of the shops that I often go to and sometimes buy equipment in when staying in Bangkok had to put up a large mirror on the wall. When I asked the owner about it. He told me that he must have it because when the rich Thai people come to buy a Leica they like to see how it will fit together with their suite's or clothes

Re: sports photographers and superteles:

Yes, could be. Without hard numbers it is hard to really know. On the other hand, those super teles have been in production for so long now, and the updates are far between, that the yearly production capacity could easily be lower than imagined. And there are probably only really three markets for them: hobbyists, sports photographers and wildlife photographers. The last category is probably quite small compared to the first two. Sports photographers do have some characteristics which make them a little hard to judge: they are highly mobile, and highly visible. Only the large international events really get the rows and rows of superteles. National events get much less, and local events get none, or a small number of copies. If there are more or less superteles in circulation than, say Leica 28 Cron or 50 Lux ASPH lenses is hard to say. I have seen more Leicas than superteles on the street Anyway, my point was more that comparing Leicas to superteles w.r.t. cost, production and materials doesn't yield any obvious conclusions.

No. The copies sitting in the photo stores around here at least sit there for ages before being sold. Leica M lenses, however, are incredibly hard to get, and you need to get on a waiting list.

I would attribute this difference to the fact that the super tele market is much more stable and well-saturated, whereas the Leica M8 and especially M9 kicked off a growing frenzy which Leica hasn't caught up with yet. One day this too will settle down and become stable.

If only this Leica had calfskin on it, it would not have sold for such a petty amount.

How would you feel if Fujifilm charged $8,000 for the X Pro 1 and it had such substandard parts as a 230k LCD screen. Or had a seriously challenged sensor that struggled with ISO1600 or higher?

Would you say that Fujifilm is dedicated to excellence?

If the X pro 1 had a FF sensor, I certainly would have considered it at 8K even if the LCD is sub par. Of course the M is a RF which is IMHO one of the main attractions. To be fair, the only reason why I don't currently own an M9 is all the weaknesses that have been discussed here and elsewhere. It seems the M10 will be addressing most if not all of these weaknesses, as the live view (and video, which I don't care about) have been confirmed, which automatically means better LCD and faster response times. I know for sure that I will be getting one, no matter the price. As already mentioned by others, the high price is not really a problem as the reselling price remains quite high.

Any word on who they are sourcing the sensor from? CCD or CMOS?

So, live view is confirmed for the M10? From what I have read, if it will be using a Kodak sensor, it will be 24MP's.

Obviously its CCD as its identical sensor to one in M9. Camera itself isnt changed much, it will have just tweaked firmware, and even more stealthy exterior. Tho it wouldnt be bad if it had shutter like M8.

M10 should have Sony CMOS sensor. Even tho live-view is possible with CCDs, its near impossible to have full-frame with video capability and CCD sensor.

I guess 24 mpix Sony CMOS is quite realistic. I hope for that new second generation, not that first in A900.

If they do go Sony CMOS for the M10, they would be crazy not to use the 36MP sensor so users could feel they were taking full advantage of their expensive Leica glass. Guess that might not be possible since Nikon supposedly has a 1 year exclusive on that sensor (unless Leica announces and waits to ship).

Timing of the new 50 f2 doesn't seem random. They need a super-lens
to advertise the amazing resolution of the new camera. I don't think 24MP will cut it
as Nikon D800 will be widely available by then. Great to see live view confirmation.
