DH: Don't completely dismiss the video capability, I have a clip of my wife dancing at the vacation fare-well party. Her expression when she discovered me filming her is worth every penny. I'd be a dead man if I ever showed it to anyone.
I regard my Gs like PhilD does his s95 except that I prefer a larger P&S. I've tried using my wife's SD850 but its just too small. If I were trying to compare the G1X to a M4/3 multi lens system then I'd agree with Pixel's 5)-9) and viewfinder issues, but no smallish multi-lens system can compete with a 5D/7D kit so whats the point? I'd read Pixel's 3) & 4) and DH's video button complaints before and agree these are minor issues. 2) is wrong. My TC-DC 58N 1.75x teleconverter from my G3 works just fine although I'd prefer it to mount on a base adaptor like the G10 rather than the end of the zoom. Its still available from Amazon and extends the range out to 200 mm equivalent. I've found with previous Gs that I don't really use it much though. As for 1), I actually prefer the bayonet mount filter adaptors, they are very fast and easy to change, faster than selecting macro mode in the menus. A 58 mm lens cap works fine. I agree with the Pro 1 folks that say a filter adaptor should have been included with the camera. I have two, one for the CPL and one for the close-up filter.
My biggest gripe is with the macro mode setting. I take the actual close focus limitations as part of the physics of fitting a very compact zoom to the required image circle. But what is the point of having to go into macro mode when there isn't one? You don't have to change to macro mode in Full Auto mode so why in the other modes? Humph! But I like having a P&S for all the fun things it can do, especially when I get IQ that matches my 7D. I appreciate all your opinions on this.
I have ordered the auto lens cap and a knock-off lenshood today, I don't like the snap on cap much and I feel a bit naked without a hood, even though I won't be able to use them both together!
I agree the macro problem is annoying, having to go into that just to shoot a headshot is a bit ridiculous, but now I know I can change settings in a couple of seconds.
I like the updated way you get to the flash exposure compensation, I use that a lot

I would enjoy a trip to Greece when their turmoil dies down and my

I use the LensMate 58mm adapter and a Hoya close-up x1, x2, x4 set for macros. Works great!
The adapter works very well with a polarizer too.
Can the macro light adapter MLA-DC1 be used to support macro flash AND filters or diopters?
Looking at photos I can not see threads.
Can I glue a 58mm extension tube to the MLA-DC1 for filters?
been thinking about this camera a lot for a trip to UK, would take it and my fuji X100 (so the macro issue wont be a problem) still cant decide to get it or not or just take my 5DII

Much as I like my G1X, if I'm going somewhere where photography is important, I'm taking my 5D2. If the trip is just shops & museums etc. the G1X may be fine, but it seems the X100 may already fill that niche. The problem with having more than one camera or lens is deciding what to take.
Have been on numerous OAT & GCT
cruises & trips. Canon 5D3 is
far superior to 5D2 for getting action &
low light shots. Use Canon L 135
for candid shots & Canon 8-15
zoom fisheye for interior shots
of ship.
