p.4 #2 · What ONE lens would make you consider a platform change ???
I can't think of one particular lens that could keep me satisfied with a brand, or make me switch.
Canon's whole selection of lenses an important reason for me to remain loyal. No one else has a 17TSE or 24TSE, both of which I consider ground breaking. Same for the 100/2.8L IS. Same goes for the 28-300L, for a different purpose and resolution need.
Regarding bodies, again it is Canon, not only due to its controls and innovations over the years, but the fact it is a superior platform for easily adopting Alt lenses due to its flange-to-sensor distance.
It would be awfully hard for another brand to woo me away from using Canon. But if it happens, it happens. I'm more interested in the practical aspects than brand loyalty.

Nikon actually offers a 24 PC-E and a 105/2.8 VR Macro as well as a 28-300VR. So all you are missing is the 17 TS-E

Ummm. . . I believe the problem that has plagued Nikon with PC lenses still exists: unwanted distortion in the wide angles. The Canon is also more versatile in adjustments.
Although the Nikon 105VR is attractive, I think the Canon Hybrid IS is slightly more effective, but that is a close thing. Call it a draw.
The Nikon 28-300 is rather a poor joke compared to the Canon 28-300L IS. We are talking hobbiest IQ and build, compared to professional.
And then there is the 17TSE. . .
Anyway, none of those Nikon models get me jonesing for a change.

Leica 100mm f2.8, whoever can make an electrically compatible ff version... The Nikon 105vr is not anywhere close to as good and neither is the canon 100mm L.

ah, i can't image shooting macro through an optical viewfinder at all anymore.
I prefer to use the NEX for macros. Gorillapod, LA-EA1, $7 Opteka remote, and either the 60 or 100 with a cheap set of A mount tubes. You can get perspectives and angles that are quite simply a b**** with a DSLR, if they're possible at all. For that specific use, I can't imagine going back to any DSLR, much less the a900.

I don't get that!! What perspectives & angles can you get with your NEX, that I can't get with Live View or a anglefinder and DSLR

A DSLR is bulkier, so it wouldn't fit in some places where you can fit a NEX, or it's at least more difficult to manoever. Also, you need you press your eye against an angle finder, which makes it significantly less useful than a tilting screen can be.

You have rather small DSLRs with tilting screens also, so that argument is not really accurate.

there are lots of perspectives that are a lot more painful to reach without an articulated lcd and the angle finder still necessitates putting your head down at the level of the camera. i guess most perspectives are possible, just less comfortable.

most (all?) of those are low grade cameras with weaker sensors, but yes.

I think the Panasonic micro 25/1.4 is the strongest reason for my recent return to the micro 4/3 world.
If anyone makes a FF LIVE camera working as well as the Olympus E-M5 does that would make me change platform without hesitation. That is provided there is a 45/1.4 or 50/1.4 performing as good as the Panasonic lens.

No they don't all have weak or bad sensors. Some have very nice sensors. And they also have a lot more accessories for macro and ligtning than the NEX bodies. The NEX bodies are nice but it's not like they have better IQ or works better than DSLRs when it comes to macro shooting.......

out of curiosity, what are those cameras? canon has the 60D (somewhat aging sensor) and nikon has the D5100 (same sensor as the NEX-5N) both of which have solid sensors, though not as good as the NEX-7's for macro i would think. have i missed some new releases?
