I still prefer the output that comes from DPP vs. ACR and Lightroom. Call me old fashioned.

You are not being inclusive enough.

The Olympus E-M5, Pentax K5/K1, Sony NEX 5N, Nikon D7000/5100/D800 all do not exhibit such behavior in the shadows.

Not too long ago, Canon users used to be able to say this to Olympus/Pentax/Sony/Nikon users: you mean your camera shows THAT at ISO 1600 but mine does not?

How times have changed. A crying shame.

It's remarkable how well the tiny sensored E-M5 does. Looks to have more DR and similar noise to 7D even at ISO 3200.

Glad Oly stepped up. My E-P3 is great for a point 'n shoot but trails the 7D big time in terms of DR and maybe a stop back in noise control.
