I talked to the Best Buy rep. last pm and they said it was available then. I did not order but rather chose to stick with B&H and not pay 8% sales tax.
Regarding the EN-EL15 batteries - check your local Best Buys, A lot of the stores here in the MSP area have (or did have) quite a few in stock. I went to a local store and picked one up a week ago (my D800 battery was included in the recall) and there were three more left in the case.
Cancelled my order for a D800 from B&H today (ordered on 2/8) Walked into a local camera store yesterday (Tall's -Seattle) and paid for the camera in full. They said mine should be available in a week or two at the most. They just called and it's ready to pick up. Had to pay the sales tax but I did support a local store.
They didn't have any en-el15 batteries but BestBuy store had a bunch.
ps; when i had them on the phone I asked if they could xheck the battery and it was a "G" so all good. I also checked the battery I bought at BB and it was a "D"
...seems great business practice, America runs on small businesses, and everyone gets piece of pie... but this situation is sick, since neither producers can deliver the product..

Just another report of "buy local". I originally ordered on Amazon in the beginning of April and when that seemed like a long shot, I reserved at some local places like Calumet in Philly. Then on 4/25 I put a $100 deposit down on a D800 at Jack's Camera in Philly. He said the people who put deposits down go to the front of the line. I went that day to put the money down. People told me I shouldn't just trust them and they're trying to ensure their business with no actual guarantees, but I got a call today (less than 2 weeks) saying my camera is there ready to be picked up. I'm going tomorrow at lunch to get it!
I too am patiently waiting form my D800E ordered on 2/7. I understand that B&H, Adorama and others are not being told by Nikon when and how many units they will be receiving. However, it would be reassuring if B&H et. al. would post to forums like this saying that something along the lines of "we just received a shipment of xxx units which will be distributed to those on our waiting list." I suspect that this is information they would rather not share, but I can hope.
We haven't received any shipments of the D800E for those on our waiting list, other than for NPS allocation and we have no ETA from NIkon as to when they will be shipped.
Thanks for the update. I'd like to hear the same from Henry about B&H. All this reminds me of flight delays. The thing that frustrates fliers more than the delay is the lack of information.

Respectfully I'm not sure how many times I can comment on the D800/D800E/D4 situation here and elsewhere online before entirely wearing out my welcome. :-)_
We have received and shipped non-NPS D800 and D4 orders and will continue to fulfill those orders in chronological order, as promised. We have received at least one D800E delivery. While I cannot be specific, I can say it was a very small number of cameras. We do not know when we will receive out next shipment of any of these, nor the quantity we'll receive when we do. As I've said before, Nikon USA does not provide this information to us.
As I indicated earlier, I ordered the D800 from B&H on 2/7/12. I called customer service at B&H today to get a update on my backorder status but all I get get info- wise was that it is still on backorder. Unfortunately they wouldn't tell me where I was on the list. I know this has been addressed earlier in this thread, but it is still frustrating. Anybody getting the D800 besides NPS?

In fact a number of non-NPS customers have received D800 cameras from us. Unfortunately it is far too small a number and Nikon USA continues to have difficulty supplying this camera.

Sounds like you need to get on a list at a B&M store. Under 2 weeks for a ton of people on here including me.
Local B&M's are the way to go, I got mine yesterday and I ordered it a week and a half ago! This after being on the B&H and Adorama wait list for over 2 months
