Thanks again Boris and Philip! I've been gone a week, and what a wonderful way to return: looking at your pictures and reading your generous notes.
BTW -- Philip -- going back a bit, but I didn't notice anyone leaving a comment on your barbed wire close up. That's an impressive shot, along with the dead trees.
Boris -- more amazing work.
Between the two of you, I want to travel there (or New Zealand, or just back to my native Pacific Northwest!). Thanks for the inspiration.

Great thread and photos from both of you!
I find it quite interesting to see the different in photographers, for both artistic view and the processing differences between photographers and systems.
Beautiful scenery (and for the record, I'm quite fine with great looking fences in a photo!)

cputeq, Gunzorro, thanks!
Akul, I am so disappointed! You are the one person on FM who takes time to point out each feature on each picture he likes, whch is very much appreciated BTW; I thought your rnot commenting up to now meant that you were compiling something as least as long as "War and Peace". And, instead of Tolstoy's masterpiece, I get something the length of a text message. Ah, what times we live in...

I have just uploaded an overview of the carretera. The order of the images is from north to south: http://toothwalker.org/temp/fm/cal/
Thanks, very interesting.
How did you like the section from Puerto Yungay to Villa O`Higgings?
Did you visit the Bernado O'Higgings NP?
How did you went from Chaiten to Puerto Montt?
Via Isla Chiloé or via Caleta Gonzalo / Hornopiren or both?

Somehow I completely missed this thread - thank you Boris and Philippe for posting these great images and sharing your impressions! I will now read the whole thread from beginning to end...

Good stuff, Toothwalker! Nice dead trees!
Dead trees rule.
I notice that we chose almost identical viewpoints at Bosque de los Muertos.
It is nice to see that those trees, although dead, are still doing well years later.
If you ever return to the area, then note that there are many more dead trees to be found further south in Patagonia, including Tierra del Fuego.

Toothwalker, great set of images, nice addition to the thread. Were those shot on film?
Nine of the images are scanned slides and the rest is direct digital capture. I guess it is easy to tell which ones are the scans.

I enjoyed it immensely. The images starting with Río Bravo are all from this stretch. It was early October 2008 and cold.
Did you visit the Bernado O'Higgings NP?
No. I got the impression that it is not easily accessible, and presumably there was too much snow anyway at that time. Moreover, my travel companion was not very interested in photography and was bored. Hence we moved on to Península Valdés.
How did you went from Chaiten to Puerto Montt?
Via Isla Chiloé or via Caleta Gonzalo / Hornopiren or both?
I tackled Chaitén only on the first trip. We drove from Puerto Montt to Hornopirén, where we took the ferry to Caleta Gonzalo. There was also a short ferry trip somewhere between Puerto Montt and Hornopirén. I have been on Chiloé though and found it a bit disappointing.
