Right.......if and when it works. Hell, probably a 1/2 of all 1DMkIIIs have an NFG AF system, whether their owners know that or not.

uncharacteristically gratuitous comment, given your status 'round here and lack of experience with Mk III's. 'course i may resemble your remark ...

Pixie, you see, I do not have to actually taste "vegemite" in order to learn that it makes me sick to my stomach.

taken to its extreme, i suppose i don't have to do anything to "learn" what's true for me. i can trust the judgment of erstwhile experts, internet text, the experience of strangers, and dozens of other unreliable and irrelevant sources. and then i'll be one informed dumba$$.

I'd say the 1D II is still the best buy, since you can get one for around $550 used (with brazing) or around $650 for one with all the original box, etc. I mean, you just can't beat that for the amazing quality of the camera! The 1D IIn is still around 800-1000. While the screen is better on the back, it's the same underbody for the most part.

only difference i noticed b/w the Mk II and Mk IIn was the latter's jpg engine produced sharper files out of the camera. completely addressable in post-processing.
