Don't you want to wait until the recalls and lite leaks are in the rear view mirror? The updated firmware and the blue dot/yellow dot models will hit the shelves in a few months.

The 5D3 is the wrong camera if you enjoy lens cap photography. Lots of frustrated low key folk out there...

I don't post here very often but always read the forums! I am also considering the 5D3(once the bugs are fixed)! I currently have a 40D with a Tamron 17-50,Tokina 11-16 & a Canon 70-200 f/4! Mainly landscape photography & the odd airshow that comes this way!! I've been waiting/wanting to go FF for a long time!

Hi Eric.

My suggestion to you, would be to do the same as I did. I had one on hold when they first came in. I thought....awh just stay with 5DII, great camera. I finally learned how to get around, what I thought was missing in a camera for 2700.00. The IQ was so worth it.

I made it to the store the next day, just to check the 5DIII out and see for my self? I could not get over the immediate difference in the camera just feeling it, the response was amazing. I thought to myself...just wait with the new auto focus system yet to be proven...etc...I went home to think about it...started to dream about it!! I bought it right away. I LOVE the new Camera. It focuses, it is fast, it is sharp...it sings to me......hope this helps. terry

You'd be trading away a two-camera system that (collectively) has great AF and great IQ except in very low light, for a one-camera system with great AF and great IQ, even in low light. I guess I would make the decision based on your need, or not, for great IQ in exceptionally low light.

the percentage of shots requiring good ISO performance might be the most important criteria

Not sure I would sell the 7D with the specs you like that it has... but...

What I like about the 5d3 is the focus... the thing actually focuses for fast changing situations, which I shoot a lot. And it focuses well using outer points... which I like to use.

Also, maybe I got sucked in by the Canon hype about jpeg on the 5d3 because I actually tried
it at those higher iso settings and I liked it. Did not think that was going to be possible.

Super large file sizes are a pain to me at this time due to extra overhead needed in equipment. The fact that file sizes are about the same made me real happy with the 5d3.

I have a 5d2 and 7D as well. If I didn't enjoy shooting with my alt MF lenses and the EG-S screen, I'D trade up to the 5D3 as soon as the bugs are worked out. I do like the "reach" of the 7D and will consider the trade-offs to selling it for a 5D3 as well. More than likely the 5D3 will be an addition for me in the near future.

Everyone saying the 7D AF is great, some comparing it to the 5D3, probably hasn't tried the 5D3 yet. I think the 7D AF is good, but from my limited testing the new AF seems to be on a whole other level.
