p.2 #1 · Older Canon 5D Mark I

I've never had any big issues with low light using the center AF point. The outer points, well...

I haven't had a problem with the center point either. But when DOF get's short, as it usually does when shooting in dim lighting without a flash, it's really tough to get shots in focus if you don't want the point in focus at the center of the frame.

That being said, I still love the 5D. I've had it for almost 4 years and have no plans or needs to upgrade. Given the choice on which body to use, I generally go for the 5D for 75% of my shooting. Adding a flash with the IR assist lamp and telling it not to fire using the custom function helps a lot with focus when shooting with only dim, available light. The trade-offs are almost always in favor of the 5D for me. But if you are going from a 1D to a 5D, you are going to notice a difference.--Eric.

Compared to 1d and 7d bodies the 5D and 5D2 both feel slow and clunky.

I have the 5D and IIn. You'll like the files out of the 5D better if they're in focus. You'll run out of auto-focus ability in low light on the 5D before you'll dislike the noise. Just the opposite of the 1D2. Kind of ironic, I think.--E.

I shot my 5D in low light at ISO 1250 and 1600 at F2.8 for many years and the center point rarely missed. Just don't bother with the other AF points when it's dim.

I recall when I first bought a 5D in 2005, an upgrade from a 10D, thinking this sucka really rips! The only thing that bothered ma about the 5D was the dim and greenish LCD.

If you've only owned 2 bodies why not consider the 5D II?

You may retire before you outgrow it

The 5D was and still is a wonderful FF body/dslr! I am sorry I ever sold my 5DMKI and ended up buying a MKII last fall and have not looked back!
The cameras IQ amazes me and the images, when shot correctly by the user, are excellant!
A 5DMKII or5DMKIII(if you can afford it right now) can't be beat for Nature,Landscapes.....

"Compared to 1D and 7D..the 5D/5D2 feel slow and clunky"?? Greenish and dim....Opinions don't cost here and everyone has em....
Go with your gut and look at many of the pro magazines, the 5D2 is the major body of choice....for many pro photogs.

My older, older 1D Mark ii is done for the count. It's reached end of life replacement for Canon too.

I've found a 5D Mark I for sale.

I don't shoot sports. I don't need to shoot at 16K ISO either

I just want a body that I can use during late evenings this summer for my senior work, with minimal noise from iso settings.

Will that body give me that? Right now I'm test driving a Canon 7D, but I'm not sure I like it or not yet. The two lenses I use the most in order is the 28.70 2.8L, and

Pflitz. I know your style. I use 7D while it can do most yo want, you may have to put a little more effort into cleaning noise and sharpness. I have not used 5Dc it might be more suited to your style. guessing from pics I have seen and general opinion from folks who use 5D.

good luck.
