hah, probably so, but the D800 is a tall order 38MP with 2-3 stops less DR and say $1000 more than D800... hmmm. plus they likely won't do aps-c crops at 6fps so that would look weaker compared to D800 than the 5D3 in many ways i'd think so they need something to make it special
Shame about the lack of any weather sealing given the price point. I wonder how much weather sealing the D800 has, anyone damaged one of those yet Roger?
Certainly looks like a seriousbit of kit when you get to see what goes on inside the box. I hope you were wearing anti-static protection before you did your tinkering
Aaron (who did most of the dissection while I took pictures) pointed out that the plastic adhesive cover over all the circuitry - which I went on about protecting it from shorting out with a loose screw - is certainly at least water resistant. I hadn't thought about that.

I thought the innerds were going to be nothing but magic
No magic in these Canons, but you should see the inside of a D800. Packed full of magical fairies sprinkiling their DR/no banding pixie dust all over the place

But do you have any explanation how that one screw went lose?
Ralph
Ralph, it was one of the 4 screws holding the card readers in place. I'd guess it wasn't torqued down all the way and may worked loose in shipping or just from use. We see a camera with a rattling screw every month or so.
