Haven't used mine since I got a 1D4, but this thread makes me want to shoot with it again. I went EOS1000 -> ElanIIe -> Drebel -> 5Dc -> 1D4. The biggest upgrade was probably to the 5Dc. Still love the 5Dc. So many good images!
I don't know if it's the 5Dc itself or moving from a crop sensor to FF (I reckon it's both)... but I agree with the fact that I am very happy thus far. Haven't gotten to test thoroughly yet since I just got it in the mail yesterday but it has been a very nice upgrade to my 20d.
There;s something to be said for the 5D original. It's a fantastic camera, and I find that I often miss it's POV and the "sound". It was very, "clunky" sounding. However, around children it was less intimidating. I never mounted a grip on mine. I fought the urge to.
I had taken mine out into inclimate weather without problems. It wasn't like a monsoon or anything, but I had snow on it a few times.
Great camera, and I will surely pick one up again.
Once I bought the 5D, I knew my 1.6 crop days were over.
the 1dsmkII took beautiful pictures with very fine high ISO noise (e.g. 1600) but I hated the old 1 series interface and horrible LCD. The AF also wasn't up to extremely low light event photography. The 5D center AF was better. The 1dmkIII spoiled me forever - great AF, damn fast, great interface, and slightly less high ISO noise than the 5D. A 5DII didnt interest me - didnt really need more pixels with same slow camera. The 5dmkIII changes the equation. It's been stunning for the first 1000 images ISO12500 is the new 1600. Also the in cam HDR is a hoot.
Just joined the 5Dc club today and so far loving it. I used to own a 1Ds classic and I missed the certain look to the low ISO pictures. I'm so glad I took the plunge and replaced my 40D with it. It has the same looks to the pictures that I loved about the 1Ds. This is a great companion to my 1D mark III. The 5D mark III is great but for 3/4 the price, I can get the 1D Mark III and 5D and put the savings to some great lens instead.
I got a 5D2 before a 5D, so it's not some romanticism about the past
I think it's because it has such a strong natural sensor vignette (microlens ineffiency towards sensor periphery I think) that it gives photos more of a "pop"
Also because it is such large pixel density, everything is very sharp at the pixel level assuming in focus shots. That also adds to the "pop"
Hey hey hey.. Are you happy about going full frame :-). Great photos. You are going to love the 5D.. I still have the classic. I upgraded from the T3i, and the sensor is super goodness..
I have thought a few times recently about selling my 5D, but the sensor is still relevant and very capable, the camera is simple and straight forward, and I admit I have a little emotional attachment... I just can't bring myself to do it.
Eventually I'll pick up a mark III on the used market, but until then it's 12.8 mp of goodness...
