That is on heck of a rig with all that! Is there any compelling reason to need a bracket that goes on the grip? Since the cam is going on a tripod anyway any handling issues are negated, it adds another 'join' since the bracket only attaches at the base as well as adding weight. I plan to use mine without the grip for tripod use.
I have my D700 backet on ebay but to do af fine tuning I used my D700 bracket on the D800E and it seems to fit pretty well as long as you don't need the strap lugs. I may just keep it.
The only reason I bought the grip with L bracket is bcoz' it's what I'm used to. Plus, the D800/E battery life sucks! Weight isn't an issue for me imho.
Nice to see the Kirks are shipping so quickly. The RRS website simply says it's backordered. Does anyone know how long RRS is taking to fill new orders for the L bracket (without grip)? I think I'd prefer the RRS bracket, but if we're talking a month I think I'll go with the Markins bracket.
RRS Shipped my L plate yesterday (I guess UPS overnight) since it got here already.
I picked the RRS over the kirk. From what I could see (and my 5DII L plate) the elbow section of the L has a better design on RRS and I think it's less prone to vibration. Rather having a flat plate bend around the camera it has to rigid thick section that are thicker on the elbow and presumably better at dampening and vibration.

When I ordered mine I was told that while they were back ordered but shipments could be available at any time. Mine was shipped later that day.

I had the same experience, got the shipping notice a couple hours after placing my order for the back-ordered L-plate.

Not necessarily true. I use the RRS Wedding Pro Flash Bracket.
