What? I don't think so. I think it's the other way around, the sensor is the limitation not the lens, at least when you are talking any decent lens.

I agree DSLR lenses will out resolve a 36mpixel sensor, just look at compact camera lenses, they need to resolve the equivalent of a 250 mpixel sensor and i cant believe they are better than good DSLR lenses.

....Mostly I was worried about my 70-300 VR......On the other hand. I tested 24-120/4 with this D800 in a store and 85mm-120mm end looked terrible. Have to think again before bying that.

You should be worried. See: http://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2012/03/d800-lens-selection

The 24-120 is a pitiful performer while the 28-300 nearly as bad. Roger does not recommend either. The 70-300 is a fantastic lens on the D700 but only up to ~200mm; beyond that the results were middling at best, I doubt it will perform on the D800 well.

If you subscribe to Lloyd Chambers, he puts the Zeiss 15 and 21 to work on the D800 and they are both pushed to their limits on edge and corner performance.

24-120VR works fine on the D800 according to several users on GetDpi, one of these guys shoots high end MFD and if it was pitiful he'd say so.

I do subscribe to LC, I must have missed where he said these lenses are pushed in the corners. Possible it is there, I just didn't see it.

Cameron, I don't own a D800 so can't comment on the performance of the 300 f/4 AFS on it. But it performs extremely well on the D700.

Yes.....superb shot of the grass. Of course, the light is ideal and your execution not too shabby. What a shot!
