I agree DSLR lenses will out resolve a 36mpixel sensor, just look at compact camera lenses, they need to resolve the equivalent of a 250 mpixel sensor and i cant believe they are better than good DSLR lenses.

The 24-120 is a pitiful performer while the 28-300 nearly as bad. Roger does not recommend either. The 70-300 is a fantastic lens on the D700 but only up to ~200mm; beyond that the results were middling at best, I doubt it will perform on the D800 well.

If you subscribe to Lloyd Chambers, he puts the Zeiss 15 and 21 to work on the D800 and they are both pushed to their limits on edge and corner performance.

I do subscribe to LC, I must have missed where he said these lenses are pushed in the corners. Possible it is there, I just didn't see it.
