Same thing just happened to my D4 and I just took the battery out and rebooted and now its fine.

On mine the green light by the card reader door would stay on and the shutter wouldn't fire.

what card are you using?

I am using a Lexar Professional 300X 8gb UDMA. Manual says its an approved card. No problems with it in my D3.

I have had the same experience with both my D4 and D800. The workaround is to reboot, which really sucks to say the least. I use all new cards, CF and SD are Sandisk.

Same here. My D800 did it twice last week on vacation. Did the same thing the D4 did. Rebooted and worked fine. It's not the lenses, speedlites or cards. They're all new and it happened with different combination of lenses and speedlites attached to the bodies. It's only happened to one of my D4 not the other. There's always some sort of bug with new bodies. I'm sure an update to the firmware is in the works.

Are Nikon good about fixing issues like this?

My D800 froze on me last night with the 500mm VR, it was stuck at F/22 for some reason and I was shooting at F/4.

Happened to me again tonight!
Green LED stayed on...camera refused to fire....
Reset the camera and it worked fine after.
It took 20 seconds in total before I was able to take another shot though.

I hope a firmware is being worked on very soon!

I wonder if a firmware update is in the works? Hopefully everyone experiencing the problem is letting Nikon know about it. I expect to have mine in a couple of weeks, little nervous about this.

At least the camera shoots very well when it works!

It has happened to me several times with two different D4's. No pattern to cards or lenses as it has happened with Transcend 4gb 300x, Transcend 8gb 600x, XQD 16gb that came with the d4, 70-200 VR1, 24-70 and 200-400 VR1.

Same problem as others describe, card light stays on, nothing works, even power switch. Removing the battery resets it and it works again.

So far, I haven't had it happen on my D800, but my D800 is used in the studio for Commercial Still Life Table Top work, so I'm not shooting tons of Files. I'll keep an eye on it.

I think it has something to do with the camera attempting to write to a card, If this is the case, I think we will see a Firmware upgrade soon.
