Getting back into infrared photography. I purchase an X-T30 and got it converted to 590nm even though I will exclusively be converting to B&W, I like the flexibility. I am finding I like Acros with green filter so far.
This marvelous moment was over in 3/11 of a second.
Another tern dropped the crab foot and this tern spotted it as it rose from the shallow water they had both dived into. In case you are wondering. the tern did catch the foot yet this was the best of the frames in the sequence.

That's a fantastic shot! I haven't yet used a tripod + gimbal for action shooting but will definately have to try that out sometime.

Thank you,
It is a trade off and the closer the subject the more you can react handheld. The advantages of using the tripod is the ability to stay on subject when waiting for action and also less fatigue as your not supporting your gear. For situations where the shutter speed is lower sharper images will result and for some, even with a high shutter speed the images will be sharper.
This set was taken mid week under changeable skies. There was a bit of fog, then hazy sunshine, and back and forth. Lots of activity at the nesting area with about a thousand black skimmers and a thousand terns all with chicks. Also american oystercatchers and assorted sandpipers and even piping plovers. Long Island is great this time of year!
