So the 5R & possibly the 6 might get phase detect pixels on the sensor like the EOS-M.

Yesterday I tried the OMD, and maan that thing is mean! The touch AF was very quick and quite spot on. I'm really tempted with the combination of OMD 14 2.5, 25 1.4 and 35 1.4!

But do you guys think that the NEX will catch up to OMD's AF performance and touch AF? I rather stick with NEX if that is the case because I prefer the FoV and IQ of my Leica & Zeiss M lenses whenever I prefer MF..

Size. I was under the impression that The CV 35 1.2 II is a rather large lens.

Hmm, how big is the Pen f 38 1.8?

Your impression is correct, Michaël. The CV 35 f:1.2 is not a large lens by DSLR standards, but very large for a rangefinder...

I actually just purchased the OM-D and a couple of lenses. It should arrive tomorrow and will give me the opportunity to play with both side by side. I don't know if I'll keep both but the OM-D really intrigues me. At the same time, I've come to really love the NEX-7.

I'd be really interested to hear of your experience, Bob. As for me, I have yet to feel blasé with my NEX 7.

Large and heavy.

Lately, I've been using my Pentax 31/1.8 instead of the CV 35/1.2. Even with the NEX to Pentax adapter, the Pentax is the same length as the CV with NEX to M adapter, but much lighter and it doesn't feel as front heavy. the Pentax 31 is a metal well buillt lens, but weighs much less than the CV 35/1.2. Personally, I also prefer the 31mm field of view on APS to the 35mm FOV

I have the CV35/1.2 II and for the longest time, this lens never left my camera. On the NEX, it is larger than many but certainly not large. It is heavy but to me, it just solidly built. The images using this lens are just stellar, IMHO and certainly worth the extra weight.

Bob, please post your impressions if you have played a bit with the new gear. I'm quite interested in the IQ difference with the OMD, 5N and the 7. I will have to sell all my M lenses and the 5N if I decide to buy OMD, a total pain since I really love how my M lenses.

I'm a bit pesimistic if sony could pull all the strings and make a body that has similar performance to OMD and at the same time, getting out all the missing lenses to complete with the m43 system. To be competitive, sony should have a 18 or 20 f/2, 35 f/1.4 and a Zeiss 50 f/1.4 that focuses lightning fast.

The only appeal I can find for the NEX system is actually for folks with M lenses or manual lenses in general.

Re 35mm M lenses, I have quite a few.. Zeiss 35 C Biogon, leica 35 Summarit and Leica 35 summicron asph. All are quite small and performed very well on the 5N. IIRC the biogon behaves a bit like the cron in rendering while the summarit is quite different.

If you like a modern lens (sharp, good contrast), the cron is the best followed closely by the C-Biogon. The summarit on the other hand has a different way of seeing with not in your face subtle pastel like rendering. But for the price of the cron, one could buy the C-Biogon and Nokton VII which fits for different purposes. I think thats what I'll do if I do it again. Sean Reid also praise highly about the C-Biogon on his paid review (M9).

Personally, I think it's a mistake to sell lenses you like to buy a body that will be outdated in a year and available for much less.

agreed, but if you miss autofocus it probably makes sense. i definitely miss oly's IBIS and am periodically vaguely tempted, but then i remember how much i hate autofocus.

Yes, that's why I asked will future NEX cameras will have the same auto performance and touch AF as the OMD. If it does, I'll stay so I could also use my M lenses for the slower type of shooting and fast AF if needed.

Currently I'm interested in unobtrusive street photography and with the M lenses, I could only have zone focus shots since precise focusing requires much time and it has misses. I did try the Sigma 30 2.8 briefly and I though that was quite good for general fair paced photography. But I dont think focusing speed of the 5N + sigma 30 is something to rave about..

I'm completely stunned yesterday by the performance of touch AF the OMD has, and the fast primes like 14 2.5, 25 1.4 and 45 1.8 also tips the equation further.

But why?

If you hate AF, NEX is a no brainer for you though

indeed, it's my hate of autofocus that keeps me away (well, not a fan of the OM-D evf either). i really do miss feeling confident in shooting 3 stops slower than i am with my NEX though. olympus really does have great image stabilization, and once you've gotten used to it, you really notice it's absence.

This is good to hear about the OMD. The sigma 30 on the NEX-7 is pretty good but from what I keep reading about the OMD, it should be perfect for street photography due to the quick AF. My camera arrives today along with the 25/1.4 and 45/1.8. It will be fun to compare handling of the OMD versus NEX-7.
