p.5 #1 · Lightroom Version 4 is available

I posted the two fixes - one for Windows, one for OS X, taken directly from the Adobe thread - here on FM in this thread:

https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1092146/0#10442917

On my Windows machine I was unaffected - the upgrade to LR4 and Nik's release of SEP2 for LR4 just worked, even though I didn't have Photoshop CS5 currently on the machine (might have had Elements)... but on checking I did have the registry entry that makes up the Windows workaround.

On my OS X machine the upgrade did not work straight away; installing Photoshop CS5 solved the problem. You can install it on a trial basis - the fix will continue to work even after the trial expires, but if you have no need to peek at PS you can avoid even activating the trial - the fix will still work. When Adobe releases an update for LR4, the Photoshop trial can be uninstalled.

On balance I like the upgrade. How they've split out shadow and highlight control seems to make a difference on some challenging images. On my OS X machine it seems somewhat slower when applying some, not all, changes to an image; on my Windows machine I'm not as certain it is slower but I've not spent much time using it there. In any case there'll probably be performance improvements as new point releases of LR4 come out.

This is a somehwhat trivial matter, but in LR3 there is the issue when moving photos from one location to another and the last photo refuses to move which generates an error message, thus requiring us to move it a second time.

Anyone else experience this? Has it been fixed in LR4?

I'm just ticked that the fill light slider is now gone....

Don't be...the shadows slider gives much better results, IMO. (and if you really want it back, just change process to 2010 and it will reappear). I am getting MUCH better results with the shadow and highlight sliders than I ever got with fill light and recovery. It's really nice to not have the shadow adjustment totally screw with the midtones and highlights.

+1

I have just watched the L4 luminous landscape video/s. It's rather good for explaining how to use the sliders and which sliders effect each other under the hood.

I will have to watch those videos for sure. Perhaps i don't have as much experience with LR4 yet...

Yes, I had the same problem in LR3. This far LR4 has behaved and moved any number of files when I have asked it to do so. (Windows 7, 64-bit system)

Hi Jonas. Thanks for sharing that. It has been a minor, but annoying issue. Fingers crossed that it has been solved.

That used to bug me but I think it has been fixed in the last update (3.6). I was getting that error all the time but not anymore it seems.

Does the CA auto-correction rely entirely on lens profiles, or does it measure CA in the image and correct it?

The auto-correction measures CA in the image to correct it, for instance my Zuiko 21mm f3.5 is corrected perfectly, obviously with no lens profile.
