Well I'm skeptical.
EOSCount says my 5DMII has just over 12,400 shots, but I have never reset the sequence, and my last image is numbered 9,453. Did Canon fire the shutter almost 3,000 times after assembly? I highly doubt it was the dealer since I picked it up the day they got it in from Canon (it was one of the first to arrive in Montreal).
I hope it estimates high. I really do. My 1 mk4 is about 10k higher than what the seller had, and my other mk4, I think both the seller and i pooped a little when I told him what it said haha!
In a way though I think that shutter count while relevant its not exactly a "you're definitely hosed after x clicks" type of thing.
Use it and if it blows up, awesome! If it doesn't, awesome-er!
EOSCount worked well with a 1DIV I bought from a lady here on this forum. She estimated her count as between 25,000 and 30,000 actuations based on her few months of ownership and weekly use. The actual, per EOSCount, was 32,442. Her estimate and the software pretty well matched.
Are you sure this is giving the correct shutter count? ESDK does not have any API that provides the shutter count (not even the latest version for 5D MK III and 1-DX). There is no ActiveX version of ESDK.
I suggest this: get the count, then take a fixed number of pictures and get the count again. Is the second number the first plus the number of pictures you took?
Of course the SDK has functions that provide serial number, datetime, firmware version, owner name etc etc.
