p.2 #1 · Rumors of the demise of prints and wedding albums

You know, they say a record sounds better than Ipod, but who the hell owns a record player anymore.

Me. I have four turntables. I also own 2800+ LP's and 3500+ 78's. I get your point, though.

I also have a Zen (similar to an iPod), and a high bit rate MP3 from a good digital source sounds better than a record any day.

I think a lot of it is generational, it used to be that knowledge and tradition was 'passed down' from one generation to another, but now in the modern or postmodern age, people growing up are often left to develop their own ideas, or end up taking on the ideas of their peers.

For instance, I went to a musician's performance a few months ago, and afterward he gave out CDs as a freebie to the audience. And the reaction from a lot of people in the audience was confusion, people were looking at the nice shiny discs and wondering what they were, what you were supposed to do with them and so on.

It's the same way with prints, having grown up in the digital era, the youngest generation is often unaware of the concept to begin with. If they are introduced to it, some may like it, others may shrug it off as unnecessary or see it as pointless.

And to contrast with a time when prints were the only way, digital distribution and display didn't exist, of course there's been some general shrinkage of that market. Not everyone will see that shrinkage, though.
