I've thought about the D800 a lot but the platform just doesn't have the lenses I want to use. All very good lenses but nothing special.
Hmm.. I've got 2 D800e's on pre-order (hedging my bets this time). I've got a half dozen Zeiss ZF lenses that will work great on it -- most of these are pretty special. And I'm looking seriously at the Nikkor 24mm f1.4G. What lenses do you want to use?
Well the Zeiss ZF lenses are also easily adaptable onto Sony Alpha.
The Nikon 14-24mm and 24mm F1.4 are the only lenses I covet although perhaps less so when Samyang releases their 24mm F1.4 and the used prices come down to sane levels.
I just find the Zeiss 85mm F1.4, 135mm F1.8, 24-70mm F2.8 ZA lenses to be far more compelling than the Nikon/Canon equivalents. Although on the Canon platform the 85mm F1.2 is pretty amazing as well. The Sony 70-400mm SSM lens is also something on my radar and its supposedly best in class.
Also with my investment in NEX and the Sony hotshoe, it just doesn't make any sense for me to switch considering the great integration they have between E-Mount and Alpha mount.
If I was heavily invested in a lot of Sony specific lenses, accessories, multiple/ compatible systems (NEX + Sony A), I doubt I would switch myself. As it is, my favorite lenses are useable on pretty much any system. That's one of the main benefits of using alts I guess - not being tied down to one system.

You will probably get yours before me then since I only have the Amazon order in...that is, unless I decide to go with the non E version but I'm heavily leaning towards the E right now.

The A900 was more than that at introduction. Neither of these cameras is really aimed at the average consumer but at the Pro, Semi-Pro, high end enthusiast market.
A900 was $2999.99 at introduction, FWIW.
What I'd love to see is a small body, 135 sensor, simple SLT from Sony. Somewhere, in the A55 size range. I'd yank the mirror out, and use something like Leica R lenses on it.

Oh, your right. I remembered paying $3200 at the Sony Store when it first became available (the only place it was available at first) but that amount included taxes and shipping.

yeah, i'd be all over that too. the 5D, a900, and D800 are oversized for my liking.
my reason for wanting a FF dslr is to use the rokkor 58/1.2 and contax 35/1.4 on it too, so the nikon doesn't seem like the best option for me.
