I think the idea of the D700 holding its price as much as some suggest may be wishful thinking. Looking at B&S it has already taken maybe a $200 overnight price drop.
I think a fairly minty one will be going for ~$1,500 soon.
+1. D700 users should start selling their camera for $1800 while D800 is still in backorder
I guess I'm going to be the nay-sayer here and guess that the D700 prices will drop significantly once they start hitting the market in large numbers, since competition to sell them in order to put the equity towards the D800 will force prices downward....just my $.02.
I may have pre-ordered the D800 but the D700 isn't going anywhere right now so vultures circling would best look for other prey. I doubt many folks are going to start dumping the D700 until they have their new camera in their hands. I recall the fellow who thought he was so clever when he sold his D700 just before the announcement last October, convinced that the replacement was around the corner. He thought he'd sell while prices were relatively high. Imagine his surprise when the replacement wasn't announced.
I have NO idea when the D800 will arrive at my doorstep and I have a trip planned. If the D800 is here, it will be my companion, otherwise it will be the D700.
I'm here to post from the future, 3 months later, when the D700 sells new for $2200 and is readily available at $1800 in well used condition! It led to us saving and buying two : D
