I thought it would be obvious, but my comment was meant as humor, not as history. But here is a reference to the facts of that matter, since you asked.
It is sort of true that from one island way up in the far north and far offshore from mainland Alaska, it is only something like 50 miles to another island that is also way offshore, far from land, but which belongs to Russia. And I suppose, that should someone actually go to either of those God-forsaken places, it might, on a rare clear day, be possible to barely make out the other barren island if you knew where to look.
There's a great joke about why McCain had her go to Arizona to work with advisers after she was selected to by his vice-Presidential running mate, but I'll spare you all for now. :-)
Thanks for the lesson, but "from land here in Alaska" is a far cry from "from my porch". This thread is about Lik...let's keep the politics out of it (especially if the quotes are inaccurate). Just correcting a popular misconception...no harm, no foul.
I say lets hang this cheater and take some of his money from his doing so well business...
Lets say 15-25 of us go out and buy a copy of this image. Then we start a class action law suit for misrepresentation of the product and seek $25,000,000 in damages

It wasn't politics - just a joke... which I'm now officially done with... ;-)
I'd buy (and have)a Roman Johnson print over Peter Lik's any day of the week. Roman's stuff is just solid photography.

True. There are members on this very board who are IMO crazy (but in a good way) - Mark Metternich and Aaron Feinberg, who charge insane prices for their prints, but their prices are nowhere near 12 grand, not to mention 25. And, again, IMHO, both mentioned guys produce much better work than Lik.

Having photographed flocks of migrating geese during the past few weeks... I don't have to imagine! But those flying monkeys look like they might be a bit bigger than geese...

I'd personally like #2 without the moon. Why do photogs feel compelled to paste in a moon at any size?
#1 is an out and out farce. I don't personally know his work, but it's extremely misrepresented in his description. Art, yes. Just say so, that's all. Even if you said, "this is as I wish it were seen." I bet it'll sell like hotcakes, though.
Sorry if it's been mentioned already. I don't have the time to go through 12 pages
