Hello all,
IMO, CV180/4 is a heavily underrated glass - not ideal of course, relatively slow, but quite amazing if you get used to it. Sharp already wide-open, fully APO (such a relevation after ZF 2/100 which is annoying in this regard at times). Simply unbeatable option for travel as well - it's smaller than my ZF 2/35! Oh, and even harder to find than CV125 - heard that only circa 1K units of CV180 in Ai-S mount were produced in total. Need to shoot with it more...
A few samples of CV180 on D700, all wide-open (cross-post from dedicated small thread on CV180).
Love no1 and 2 nickson. Watched them first in the new iPad and took a second look on a normal screen and there the snowflakes just popped and made your good images even better.
OT: new iPad seem to cover extreme contrasts or what? I find it really good to browse through images (including FlickrStackr) but this was a bit surprising..
I find the rendering of my ZE 35/2 slightly nicer, but being much smaller & lighter the Ultron 40 is far nicer to use. I also find it much easier to nail focus with the Ultron.
Second – the Nokton 40/1.4. It's not a sharp lens, especially wide open, but the rendering works well for people photos IMO. Stopped down it gets very sharp in the center, but the corners lag far behind, even on the small sensor GF1 I've used it on. Currently waiting for an adaptor so I can use it as a low light lens on my NEX-7.
I love it. Very small/light and good IQ. Very sharp already at wide open. It's a great lens when travelling. And the price is very low compared to Zeiss lenses. Also love that it's chipped and have Canon mount. Just like my Zeiss ZE lenses
